I have been working at Lazard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Smart people, strong deal flow, lean deal teams, teams make an effort to work more hours during the week to free up weekends

    Cons

Minimal client interaction until you become a VP

    Advice to Management

Encourage junior team members to be in front of clients

I worked at Lazard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting deal flow, great people to work with/ for, great learning experience Lean teams, good exposure as an analyst

    Cons

Really depends on which team you end up with, some of them are more focused on marketing vs. execution Hours

    Advice to Management

Less facetime, less grueling hours to increase retention at associate level, more team events, less politics but overall good experience

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Lazard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Undeniable that deal flow is good - Somewhat "prestigious" name in industry although not as great in recent years - Less pitch work than a lot of other places, but translates into more transaction work and longer, less predictable hours

    Cons

    - Hours are brutal, don't let anyone convince you otherwise, especially if you are a good analyst they will give you as much work as possible - Pay has been consistently below peers in terms of year-end bonuses - Exit opportunities are not as good as other firms on the street - Have shown very little initiative to improve work-life balance at the analyst level, especially relative to other firms

    Advice to Management

Rather than playing catch up with other firms, take some initiative and try to make some meaningful improvements for analysts in terms of work life balance, equitable staffing and comparable compensation. Instead of just relying on the firm reputation and prestige, treat analysts well and you will be able to vastly improve recruiting, retention and overall firm culture.

I worked at Lazard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very bright, professional, thoughtful and collaborative workplace. Strong deal flow and very good place to build your skills

    Cons

You will work harder than you ever thought possible. Culture for analysts can be difficult sometimes and they don't always get the exposure analysts at other firms can get on deals

    "Investment Banking Analyst"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Investment Banking Analyst in San Francisco, CA

I worked at Lazard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great deal flow, interesting projects, opportunities to enhance learning and become promoted, great mobility between locations (strong support from HR)

    Cons

High turnover rate among analysts which created burden and pressure on rest of team to pick up the work. Too little associates compared to number of VPs which sometimes meant lack of guidance and efficiency from management

    Advice to Management

Foster guidance among analysts, create a positive learning experience, more hands-on in providing feedback and opportunities for improvement

I worked at Lazard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good professional development and mentoring opportunities, ability to learn from great colleagues. The deal flow is very good and provides good exposure. There is a strong culture at Lazard

    Cons

The hours are quite lengthy and inherently unpredictable. While this is not unusual for the industry, it makes the job very difficult to balance with any kind of personal life, especially in the early stages.

    Advice to Management

It would improve junior employee retention if there was better management of analyst and associate resources. By better allocating assignments across the team, the workload might become more manageable.
