Pros
The culture at Leafly has always been amazing -- great people work here. "One team one dream" is real. Benefits are outstanding, we have a ton of company holidays (like 15 days, I think? Including "420 observed" :), unlimited PTO, great insurance (even pays for therapy), summer Fridays. Leafly has a lot of heart and our biggest initiatives are rooted in doing right by the cannabis industry at large. There was some real fuckery going on in the 2019 era, bad leadership, horrible managers from Amazon who loved senseless paperwork, brought big "power grab" energy to the floor, with no real interest in cannabis culture, but COVID and subsequent layoffs were like a colon cleanse and all the shenanigans got canned. The CEO (also from Amazon) resigned during that time and our general counsel was promoted to CEO and it's been the best chapter of Leafly by a landslide. We feel like one company working on a great mission together again. Our CEO (Yoko) is a pillar of stability and progressive thinking. She's an excellent leader and you'd be hard pressed to find an employee these days that wouldn't follow her anywhere.
Cons
This industry is unstable and Leafly is not immune to that. Our pay scale is generally less than tech pay overall. But our benefits are so good, it's hard to replace that somewhere else where the paycheck might be bigger.

A company that’s completely lost it’s way
Mar 13, 2023 - Sales Associate in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
At this point there’s not a lot of great things to share. I’m sad to have to write that.
Cons
Leafly has always been a fun place to work but in the last year we've gone through so many position changes and layoffs along with leadership changes that the place has gone into a complete tailspin. The CFO and CCO aren't capable of doing the bare minimum it takes to run a successful company. They constantly miss timelines, don't give the team goals until the month is over (this happened in January), lack any understanding of what's actually happening at the company and then refuse to talk to employees about what's coming next. This has led to confusion and resentment, but also fear from employees who continue to work hard without knowing if the company will play games with the commissions checks again. They don't seem to care about their employees or the amount of ill will they have caused because at the end of the day, they are going to collect they're fat bonus checks while the rest of the team chases outrageous goals and can't collect commissions. In my 2 years at Leafly I've seen a once thriving and ambitious company get flipped into a failing organization led by people who are completely unable to lead a company in the weed industry. Leafly is full of great people who are being failed by leadership. Its that simple

Pros
The people, however, I've been through so many layoffs I hardly know anyone anymore.
Cons
I don't even know where to start. I made it through four rounds of layoffs and was let go in the fifth. During that time, I saw this happen three times: 1. We need hyper growth, how do we make more money? 2. I know, let's hire a ton of sales people 3. The ton more sales people can't hit the ridiculous goals, in fact, they barely increase our revenue at all 4. Let's reorg! 5. K, that didn't work, now we don't have any money -> Massive layoffs I have seen this exact same scenario play out three different times, with three different CEO's. I don't even know what to say other than good luck at this point and don't work here.

Sinking Ship
Mar 22, 2023 - Brand Sales Executive in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
As a fully remote company, Leafly offered a unique and rewarding work experience. I had the pleasure of collaborating with exceptional colleagues and clients who shared our passion for moving the cannabis industry from the shadows into the limelight. Being part of this transformative journey was a rare and exhilarating opportunity that made me proud to be part of the Leafly team. In my role in brand sales, I had the privilege of working closely with brand owners, forging lasting connections, and establishing myself as an industry expert. Overall, my time at Leafly was fulfilling and memorable, and I feel grateful for the chance to contribute to this important movement.
Cons
One area where Leafly fell short was in leadership's long-term vision. Despite the clear need for more marketing efforts to attract consumers, the leadership often seemed disconnected from this narrative. They struggled to define the company's identity, vacillating between a media company, an e-commerce platform, and an information resource. This lack of clarity hurt our business as we failed to convert enough consumers from mere information seekers to active users of the platform. Unfortunately, our UX/UI was clunky, the search capabilities were poor, and there was little marketing support to help bridge the gap. Overall, Leafly had a lot of potential, but the lack of a cohesive vision from leadership ultimately hindered its success.

Passionate work with inconsistent execution
Mar 24, 2023 - Director in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Amazing people! Leafly has always brought together incredibly successful and driven individuals.
Cons
Inconsistent identity. There has been lots of churn at the ELT level and that has resulted in the business lacking a true focus/identity.

Pros
The colleagues and the industry
Cons
I’ve been at Leafly for some years now. Leafly has proven time and time again that they’re “asleep at the wheel”. There is a massive disconnect between leadership and the team members, which is evident by the lack of communication and the utter disregard of setting attainable team/individuals goals. Leafly leadership preaches “core values” and doing right by their team members, but actions speak louder than words as Leafly will dehumanize you immediately as you’re just a cell on an excel spreadsheet. Here are a few examples of what’s happened to all employees over the last year. -Leafly announces we’re “going public on the NASDAQ”, everyone celebrates! Then the employees are given word that our shares our going to be reduced by over 60% so we can pay Merida with those shares to take us public. Leafly goes public at $10 and now is less than $1. The logic for the deduction of everyone’s shares was that the share price was going public at a higher level - well, there goes that idea. Leafly hasn’t issued any additional shares to the employees who they effectively robbed of years of hard work and vested shares. -Do you want to get paid on time or get accurate commission check? If so, Leafly isn’t the place. They’ve missed payroll 3x in the last year. Is this a startup company out of someone’s garage? How are you this “reputable” of a company and can’t make payroll, inexcusable. -Do you want to know what your goals are? Well good luck with that. This has been ongoing for the last year, you’re being given your goals roughly 2-3 months after the fact and they continue to change. This is inexcusable, where’s the accountability leadership? -If you hit your goal it’s not celebrated, it’s looked at negatively because SLT doesn’t want to pay you. I’ve never worked for a sales org whose objective is to create unattainable goals in an effort to underpay their sales team. The people that write the million dollar checks for the executives (who aren’t commissioned) are the ones who are getting taken advantage of and underpaid simple because “Leafly can”. If you hit your sales goal, be ready, it’s increasing and will continue to increase until they’re paying you far below your on-target-earnings. -Goal increases with no compensation upside. Leafly is so focused on minimizing expenses and maintaining the executives paychecks that they continue to increase goals 3x this year in order to pay everyone less and create an impossible team/individual goal. -No accountability and no critical thinking on change. Product consistently misses deadlines, marketing does nothing to grow the business or increase traffic to retailers. Sales will continue to win business and Leafly essentially just crosses its fingers hoping that business won’t cancel. Leafly struggles to provide value to its clients and the upcoming strategy is to “increase pricing and sell termed agreements”. This is the definition of “kicking the can down the road”. -Leafly is losing its people, freeing up millions in payroll expenses, but refuses to reinvest into fair compensation for its existing employees. Instead they bring on new executives who don’t know the business and roles are seemingly in place to make team quota achievement even more unattainable -Leafly can’t keep a CEO, we’re on our 3rd CEO in 4 years, RED FLAG. Our current CEO didn’t even get hired, she assumed the role when the former CEO quit and she’s done nothing to benefit the business. She is in over her head and the sinking ship that is Leafly, is on public display. Leafly executives have “quiet quit” on the team that writes their huge checks. Goals aren’t set using data, but instead unrealistic numbers that have seemingly been picked by throwing a dart at a spreadsheet with their eyes closed. I can go on and on, but I’m assuming you get the drift. Morale if the story, Leafly does NOT care about you and not a place you should call your next or current home.

The office perks (now work from home) The actual employees were the best part of working there.

No transparency. There have been so many layoffs due to over hiring and the employees suffer. All while leadership remains.

Unqualified Greedy Leadership

You get to laugh (and sometimes cry) at the hot mess the company is with your coworkers everyday
Cons
It’s a dumpster fire, hot mess, disaster, whatever you want to say. You make far less money than you anticipated making. Empty promises. The CEO’s a lawyer.
