I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

LeapFrog had a great mission and a solid core group of employees who got the job done year after year.

    Cons

Through good times and bad, executive management was always too worried about making the next quarter's numbers to focus on a sustainable road map for the future. This led to a series of rushed, mediocre, over-priced product releases that flopped and led to the company's demise.

    Advice to Management

The brand itself still has value, though the current product line is hopelessly out of touch with the market. The new owners should focus on a niche high end line of educational toys, and invest the money and resources to make the company an innovator again, not a follower.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people by far were the best thing about the company. The company also gave people a lot of say in things.

    Cons

The biggest problem was always the lack of true direction from management. There was never enough thought given to the future and short term always seemed to rule. Another issue was that processes and procedures weren't always followed or actually in place.

    Advice to Management

The company has since changed ownership, but the only way it will survive going forward is if it continues to value the thoughts and idea of the employees left

I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart peers, good customer focus, casual and pleasant work environment, and compelling mission - educate young children in literacy and math, primarily.

    Cons

Technology company with execs mostly ignorant of the details of technology. Top management unwilling to listen when those beneath say a product is a bad idea, or too aggressive timeframe to get it to market. Politics and "blame game" rampant.

As a result of continual losses, company was acquired this spring by V-Tech for $1/share.

    Advice to Management

V-Tech management, listen to the LeapFrog folks remaining, they are the good ones! Don't squander your investment.

    Pros

Leapfrog was a great company to work for a period of time with good passionate, dedicated, hard working employees.

    Cons

Lack of communication and bad decisions often made work harder than it needed to be.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, make realistic deadlines and encourage team building.

    Pros

With the recent VTech acquisition, it seems that LeapFrog might finally be moving in an upward direction again. It remains a company full of bright and motivated people that are ready to get back to the business of making great products.

    Cons

Morale is still shaky and people are unsure of what the immediate future holds for the company. The next few months will be a telling period for what people can expect of LF under new management.

    Advice to Management

Trust your workforce and help guide them through this transition period with transparency and respect. They are a talented group that is ready to get back to business.
