I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Incredibly dedicated and talented people during my time there.

    Cons

Management. Period. Is LeapFrog a tech company? Is it a toy company? No one could decide. When decisions were made, it was usually the wrong one.

    Advice to Management

New owners there...so I'm not sure what to say. I hope the backward looking new strategy is the right one.

I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Leapfrog was a great company to work for a period of time with good passionate, dedicated, hard working employees.

    Cons

Lack of communication and bad decisions often made work harder than it needed to be.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, make realistic deadlines and encourage team building.

I have been working at LeapFrog (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Always the people! Over the years, the caliber of people is pretty amazing even when things are tough. And the mission, who doesn't want to contribute to children's lives.

    Cons

While recent VTech acquisition is better than there being no more LeapFrog period after former leadership sunk the ship, but unclear how much LF will remain.

    Advice to Management

The transition is not as clear as anticipated or promised. Step up the communication and clarity.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With the recent VTech acquisition, it seems that LeapFrog might finally be moving in an upward direction again. It remains a company full of bright and motivated people that are ready to get back to the business of making great products.

    Cons

Morale is still shaky and people are unsure of what the immediate future holds for the company. The next few months will be a telling period for what people can expect of LF under new management.

    Advice to Management

Trust your workforce and help guide them through this transition period with transparency and respect. They are a talented group that is ready to get back to business.

I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with at Leapfrog are amazing. Within the creative production department there was such an awesome wealth of talent, and everyone really cared about their work. We produced great games and toys for kids, and i was always very proud to be able to say 'I wrote the music for that toy'.

    Cons

Leapfrog has been suffering from a crisis of management for several years. Now that VTech has merged perhaps that will change, but it has been hard for the company to truly innovate, as it has been forced to be reactive to the market, and has become increasingly risk-averse. There were a few forward thinking projects that I worked on, but they were cancelled in favor of more 'plain vanilla' products that in the end could not compete in a crowded marketplace.

    Advice to Management

In light of the recent merger, it is wait and see for this company!

I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who make the products and execute the consumer creative are talented, inspiring, mission-driven and cool... people are genuinely trying to help kids and parents.

    Cons

Bad leadership leads to bad financial decisions, lack of process, poor systems, no accountability, etc.... Well-known senior management best practices are ignored leading, predictably, to chaos and bad financial results and decision by ego, actively ignoring expertise of people who actually make the products and consumer touchpoints.

    Advice to Management

    Retire

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best part about working here has been the pride of helping kids reach their potential and truly being able to believe in the product that we put out.

    Cons

Some poor decision making lead us to financial difficulties, multiple rounds of layoff, and finally to being acquired by our biggest competitor. Future of the brand and everything I have taken pride with working here is questionable at this point. I fear for a decline in quality and innovation.

    Advice to Management

No management currently to give advice to.
