I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working on products for kids is fun, and the people who work at LeapFrog share a passion and enthusiasm that only comes from making things that do some good in the world.

    Cons

A technology company led by marketing and finance. There is no technology leadership, and it shows. The engineering organization is a chaotic mess and has been for years. Product decisions are made with zero understanding of feasibility. Leadership consistently asks for more than can be accomplished, then blames product failures on poor execution by the hard working team who busts their butts year after year chasing the impossible.

    Advice to Management

It's time to recognize that you're in over your heads. If this is going to be a company that makes great, innovative products, then you need to start treating it like a TECHNOLOGY company, bring on a CTO, and LISTEN to engineering. Despite repeated protestations to the contrary, LeapFrog is doomed to repeat the failures of Ultra and LeapTV because you have not learned any lessons from those disasters. Stop listening to your gut, and spend some money on research (hint: if the research says people won't buy it, maybe it's a sign you should scale back on the quotas...). Show some accountability at the leadership level for the major mistakes of the past few years by shedding the HIPPOs.

    Pros

They needed 5 words for the review. But I've decided the people I work with are the reason I've stayed

    Cons

So many. Strategy (or lack thereof), Executive level arrogance, 2 layoffs in one year..etc, etc

    Advice to Management

Please turn over the reigns to someone else!

I worked at LeapFrog full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great products, most of the people are stellar, flexible schedule, fun workspace, good area to work in, centrally located.

    Cons

It can get political real fast! The company has not been doing well lately and it seems moral is low.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate on what you are good at and stop trying to go for the older crowd. Leapfrog will always be a toy company for the 7 and under crowd.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Majority of the people here are great. They truly care about educating children with the best tools. Nice location.

    Cons

Executive Senior management here is spectacular in their incompetence, arrogance and general "eh" attitude towards common sense and their workers trying to keep the company afloat. 2 layoff rounds in 2015 so far, last in October with no end in sight. You don't want to work here unless your truly desperate. And even then, don't. You'd be better off driving for Uber.

    Advice to Management

You all (senior executive team) have made Leapfrog the laughingstock of the industry. You owe every single Leapfrog employee past and present an apology. And your resignation notices.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people are the biggest pro—IF you're lucky enough to be on a team w/a manager who cares about you.

    Cons

It's not a secret that the company isn't doing well. They haven't been doing well for a while and they're burning through cash, with a stock price that's hovering well below $1. Morale is at an all-time low and no one has confidence in the company. However, senior leadership apparently doesn't feel the need to rethink strategy or listen to the employees who are actually doing the work. Somehow products get developed that consumers have absolutely no interest in, despite questions and doubt from employees, and the company doesn't understand why the products don't sell. Two huge rounds of layoffs in the past 9 months to cut costs, yet the execs —the ones making all of the bad decisions that have led to this downfall—somehow all still have their jobs with their inflated salaries. The middle managers are mostly savvier than the execs, but they're not truly empowered to make any real decisions—execs micro-manage instead of focusing on the higher level, big picture ideas. There's no CTO, which is astounding but at the same time, not surprising when you see the decisions that are being made. The company is years behind in product development and technology, and is too slow to truly innovate anymore. The only thing they have left of value is the brand/name, which is rapidly declining in value. Without some major changes happening, I'd be surprised if they are still around in a year.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter, because they're too stubborn to listen to any advice. The 'old boys network' of execs is running the company into the ground with seemingly no consequences. It's a sinking ship that is not going to recover as long as the current management is in place.

    Pros

Good products that were invented for kids back in the days.

    Cons

Very Political environment. Nothing gets done. No collaboration, accountability, respect or professionalism. HR is hopeless.

I have been working at LeapFrog full-time

    Pros

Amazing people to work with. Great teamwork to overcome difficulties and challenges.

    Cons

Lack of learning from previous mistakes results in poor planning and a general lack of understanding of software development by the leadership team.

    Advice to Management

Let go of the old ways of toy manufacturing and embrace the new ways of software development. Also, often times employees' ideas are said to be welcome but they systematically get shot down. Many of your employees are in the demographic of your customer base yet their insights often get ignored.

Lastly, our marketing needs some real improvement. Too many families have never heard of LeapTV or LeapBand.

    Pros

Great products and really smart people

    Cons

Second tier management needs to lose some key people who are at odds with the times. CEO is not bad; he's passionate and fun to work with, but some of his co-execs are keeping the company from succeeding.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times - hire new execs with new ideas, from the new tech world.
