I have been working at Learjet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good salary. Very nice overtime/double time opportunities? Lots of travel opportunities.

    Cons

"Good ol boys" club for middle and director level management. Volatility of the aircraft industry. No fringe benefits. Low to no yearly merit increases.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep key talent you have to give them a reason to stay. Senior level engineers are highly mobile and will leave as soon as something better comes along. I hear Georgia is nice in the winter time.

Lear has some wonderful people working for them and is a great environment to be in.

    Cons

Poor managment; a lot of disarray and indecision.

I worked at Learjet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has people that are great at their job. Engineers, Project Integrators, Supply Chain, all want to get the job done and do it the right way. Most managers will make efforts to make sure you have what you need to do your job. Managers take the feedback in surveys very seriously and make efforts to improve what they have control over. There is a team atmosphere at the working level across all platforms and job descriptions of genuine caring for one another. The company has great processes, but at the Learjet site, they never staffed accordingly to follow those procedural requirements.

    Cons

Upper level management dumps many of their issues (especially those that come out of annual surveys) on their managers. Many of those issues are not within the control of those managers. The company made some questionable decisions in the methods of construction of its new business jet. They also over extended financial resources on too many concurrent programs.

    Advice to Management

Instead of asking people that come to you to solve problems out of their control, take a genuine interest in our employees.

I worked at Learjet as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, flexible hours, positive working environment. Overall a great place (with a powerful name) to gain relevant industry experience - especially for entry level engineers.

    Cons

There seems to be a strong lack of leadership and communication between upper management and the various engineering departments. The organization (upper management) seems most concerned with numbers and saving face rather than producing a quality product.

    Advice to Management

You have many hard working employes with a wealth of knowledge and experience - listen to them. Stop taking shortcuts that end up costing more in the long run. Management should also identify and eliminate workers who waste time and money by only working with 50% effort, a common problem..
