RecommendsNeutral OutlookI have been working at Lee County Southwest Florida full-time for more than a year
Pros
Great benefits. A generally friendly environment. Casual clothing and clothing allowance to choose your own uniform but do not HAVE to wear it.
Cons
No room for advancement in my department, would need to move to another department but usually hire within same department for promotions. Pay is not great and very rarely get a raise.

RecommendsNeutral OutlookDisapproves of CEOI have been working at Lee County Southwest Florida full-time for more than 10 years
Pros
Great environment, co-workers, pay pretty good, good benefits
Cons
Long time staff are not open to more efficient ideas or suggestions. Not all library buildings have PA systems, which would be useful in emergency situations (as well as security guards or police, as they were cut from budget). Perhaps the worst is eRole - mandatory volunteering if needed in emergency or hurricane situations. This program was pushed out of the gate, with no plan or answers for anything. HR is rude when you do inquire about it and have no answers at all. They tell you they'll put you in an area around what you picked, and that is a lie, they slap you in the Shelters - when you never even picked shelters. Too many high up people and not enough workers. And the high ups want to tell the workers, how things should run when they often have no clue.

Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookDisapproves of CEOI have been working at Lee County Southwest Florida full-time
Pros
Affordable benefits, though they don't cover much.
Cons
When there's a hurricane library employees are mandated to work the shelters or volunteer in some capacity unless they have FMLA. The county is known for managers harassing/emotionally abusing and micromanaging employees. There's no support for employees (financial or practical) affected by natural disasters. They take your vacation time for trying to take the time to find lodgings for your family. The county is rigid about what it will cover for education, health benefits, and other employee "benefits". The county fought with the sheriffs dept so much that the security contract they had with them was either canceled or placed on indefinite hold. Which means no more deputies at the libraries when there are violent or extremely disturbing events. Neither the employees nor the public are safe. Instead the county has opted to hire mall cop security who are not legally allowed to intervene. Just look "scary" walking around the library. There's a reason the county is always posting jobs on its site. The turnover rate is a joke. Hours are not flexible. Managers are bullies. County doesn't care about employee safety, welfare, or future. I don't recommend working for this county. There are no contracts and employees are given pay far below the rate of other nearby counties.
