Physical Therapist (seasonal)
May 9, 2016 - Seasonal Physical TherapistRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Each and every employee would offer assistance to one another regardless of their title or duties. It didn't matter if it were housekeeping or a supervising RN, if it looked as though you could use assistance, someone was glad to offer it. The seasonal pay package was generous which included a monthly housing stipend and end of season bonus for fewer than 3 unexcused absences.
Cons
Rehab department worked 7 days a week including holidays. That meant each acute care patient may receive 5-7 days per week therapy.

The longer I've been gone the more I realize what a toxic environment it was

Pay was competitive for the area Cheap Insurance
Cons
Management is atrocious. My supervisor and director were too pre-occupied with decorating the huddle board, like a Kindergarten teacher, with "process improvements," in order to make it SEEM like things were "improving." Their time would have been much better spent LISTENING to employees and VALUING employees. The clincher here is, every month, directors of other hospital areas would "round" in our department to give their opinions on how we should operate but they only went to the "huddle board" instead of actually walking around speaking to employees. The problem here though wasn't just my immediate supervisor and director but rather the culture that is being fostered at Lee Health from the top, down. The company has forgotten that employees also have lives outside of work, they have families, and life situations that occur outside of their control. They have forgotten their employees are HUMAN. No matter how short staffed my department was, or how hard we worked, there were always subtle hints that we were replaceable. The Lee Health/ employee relationship was one sided. In my time working there, I felt like I had signed a deal with a devil. They took anything they could from me; and in return I got a paycheck. No matter how much overtime I worked or shifts switched ; I RARELY got PTO approval because we were always understaffed.
Continue readingThank you for your candid review. We are sorry to hear you did not have a good experience while you were working with us and did not feel your leadership valued your contributions. Nursing is a very complex environment and frequently it is a challenge to know what the census will be at any given time. Because there is little wiggle room with staffing to appropriately care for our patients, there is a need to have rules in place which apply to all team members. Lee Health is using considerable time to assure that management and staff have the right behaviors to build a culture of compassion, respect and excellence. This is a journey and some adapt better than others to the expectations. On behalf of Lee Health, we thank you for your service and dedication to the patients of Lee county and beyond. Best wishes to you.
