I have been working at Lee and Ro full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for. Excellent benefits and pay. Size of company is perfect, not too big, not too small. Everyone knows each other and they seem to be more willing to help each other out because of that. Those who work hard are noticed and not just another number like at large firms. Great opportunities for training and opportunities to move up.

    Cons

Traffic, but much better than working in downtown LA or Orange County.

I worked at Lee and Ro full-time

    Pros

Decent pay. Terrific coworkers. Ample office space. Good local restaurants and inexpensive local housing. Yearly bonuses in the form of giftcards.

    Cons

Nepotism abounds, as does favoritism and sexism. Senior management doesn't listen to experienced staff or mentor the less experienced.

    Advice to Management

If you want to hire and retain the best, it will take more effort.

    Pros

Opportunities for organic growth and the ability to establish your own niche within the Southern California w/ww engineering community are available to hard working people.

    Cons

High turnover rate. Poor company culture. Low morale. Demanding hours and expectations. Lack of home / work life balance. Lack of support. Low wages for quality people. Subpar benefits. Too often perform tasks in a vacuum with little / no technical oversight. Original Owner and CEO is retiring and phasing in son as new CEO.

    Advice to Management

Company culture is in desperate need of revamping. Invest in retention practices to make quality employees happy.

    Pros

Great place to work with potential to develop your career as you get to work in many different aspects of engineering. Unlike larger companies that offer cookie cutter function as an employee, this company offers exposure to muti-discipline in engineering to develop your career. The motto of "sky is the limit" applies here as you can become whatever you want to be. Rewards and recognition is not overlooked, if you give it your best here.

Benefit package has gotten better over the years, if not better than other competing companies. Hours are flexible enough and company will allow some room as long as 40 hr/week is put in.
Family like working environment is really great and employees take care of each other.
Management listens to employees and respond to their needs.

Engineers are very knowledgeable and technically proficient in their area of expertise. Engineering supports staff are mostly senior staff that have been on the job for 10+ years producing final product with minimal guidelines. HR and admin staff are extremely supportive and most of them have been with the company for over 10 years. About 80% of employees have been with the company for at least 5 years and many with over 10 years which tell that it's a great company to work for.

Overall, the company is not a large giant company, but competes against the giants and wins projects which reflects that employees are experts at what they do and management supports their effort. Great company to work for.. if you are up for the challenge and advance in your career.

    Cons

Traffic seems to be the biggest problem as they are getting ready to start the railroad underpass construction. However, it sure is better than being stuck in highway traffic going towards downtown as most of the employees live against traffic of are local in the area.

Recognizing key players and projects are important, but recognizing and rewarding employees as a whole will need to improve as some might feel left out.

    Advice to Management

Management have been great in listening and responding to employees, but more structured procedures and instructions will make it even better for the future.

    Pros

A local employer, almost always everyone works an 8 hour day. Most support staff is friendly and hard working. Select individuals on the CADD staff are the most supportive I've met anywhere, and I would recommend them anytime.

    Cons

Benefits are lower level than other employers I've worked with previously. I've witnessed gross insubordination without consequences which makes budget control impossible on projects, and you're held accountable regardless. Some nepotism is routine, but seems to be practiced more than normal here so you're required to use staff that isn't really mentally engaged in their work as a qualified professional normally is. Computer support and network services is OK, not as good as it needs to be to support intensive CADD operations. I witnessed a form of discrimination practiced, again without repercussions. Some individuals have titles "Engineer" without being licensed.

    Advice to Management

Senior management engages in micro management. Tiered management staff needs to be allowed to exercise their own decision making skills rather than merely puppet echoing one top person's instructions. Manage! don't make all the decisions yourself.
