I worked at Legal and General Investment Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No bureaucracy, I worked closely with some of the senior members of my team and everyone were available and happy to help.
    Good team working environment.
Good working hours - there were some late night but usually 7:30-18:00

    Cons

Salary was quite low compared to others

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I worked at Legal and General Investment Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of friendly colleagues. Good market position and growing. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Legacy systems - but they are not investing as they should, which will come back to haunt them one day. Management 'talk the talk' but don't 'walk the walk' - they say all the right things but they don't act them out as they are generally looking upwards. They say they care about their staff but in reality they don't mean it. For instance, diversity, lots of talk but it doesn't translate into action. Maybe it's just for the Annual Report and to impress outsiders? As a very flat organisation there are very few opportunities to get on, so it makes the ones that do get on extremely political. Pay very low compared to peers.

    Advice to Management

Treat your subordinates more genuinely - not difficult to see through your talk and it's very demoralising. Invest in systems before it's too late. A lot more people are looking around for new jobs than you may think.

I worked at Legal and General Investment Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The vast majority of staff are really friendly and helpful. There are a lot of IT staff who genuinely care about the company. Understanding users from an IT point of view considering they put up with poor provisions.

    Cons

No opportunities for either progression or career development. This may be fine if you are a plodder, but was told year on year that there were some excellent opportunities coming up for me which never had any substance.

Senior IT Management spent 95% of their time focused on the grades above them and neglect the 'minions'. My Manager went 2 years without having a team meeting for all her 'team'.

    Advice to Management

Maybe look downstream once in a while.

I worked at Legal and General Investment Management full-time

    Pros

Excellent market reputation which has come from doing things the L&G way - success like this is no accident. Strong and consistent growth, steered by good top and mid-level managers. Strong levels of experience - staff are of all ages, fostering a friendly family-like culture able to retain /foster good people and very strong domains of expertise. Work-life balance is attractive - many stay for a long time. Stable job but probably not top paying.

    Cons

May have image of below market compensation for some market-driven roles.

    Advice to Management

Periodic reinvention is needed, to prevent becoming a victim of own success. Invest more in staff and infrastructure, particularly in market-driven roles. Revisit the balance between staff and stakeholder value, ESG - the current staff are your most valuable assets.. Be even more ambitious internationally - you have a winning management / market formula.
