I worked at Legg Mason (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Horrible management that have no idea what they are doing. Completely clueless as to what it takes to move the office forward. Not willing to listen. This place will suck the enjoyment of coming to work. It's hurts just to wake up on Monday's.

    Cons

If you want to grow professionally don't look here. Management only promote within the trusted circle and are easily influenced by what they are told by others not by what you actually do.

    Pros

Nice cafeteria, gorgeous building, walk to the train station.

    Cons

Backstabbing recent college graduates who lie about who made improvements are who got the work done. Moreover, many people use Christian phrases and not very politically open minded. My worst experience was when my bosses were not in the office and the recent college graduates blamed work errors on me and even said "Well, it is two verses one, it doesn't matter what you did or say". *cough *cough, was later let go.
    DO NOT WORK HERE.

I have been working at Legg Mason full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generally good people trying hard to perform
Compensation is OK overall and may even be generous to some non-performers

    Cons

No common culture across the group
The affiliate approach has not delivered results
    Weak internationally
    Company values not followed
    Lack clear strategy
    Poor distribution

    Advice to Management

Focus on creating the right culture
    Stick to values
    Strengthen international business

  7. "Interviewed and ignored"

    Star Star Star Star Star

    Pros

I was treated courteously before the final interview.

    Cons

I had a phone interview and an in person interview that both supposedly went extremely well and was told that they would contact me in the next week for a second in person interview. It has been about a month and they filled the position, while ignoring two follow up emails inquiring about the status of my application.

    Advice to Management

If you take the time to have an in person interview with a candidate and then decide not to hire that person it should be common courtesy to tell that person in some way or manner. This should be especially expected from a firm of Legg Mason's size.

    Pros

The health care benefits and compensation were decent.

    Cons

Lack of accountability from middle and senior management. Middle management direction maintained by a few within the inner circle. They just recycle the same empty suits and place them in different positions. A very incestuous crew with no regard for the individuals that produce. No clear direction with poor decision making. No a good work culture.

    Advice to Management

A day late and a dollar short
