I have been working at Leggette, Brashears & Graham, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Jumped right into things when I started. Like most jobs it has its highs and its lows, but I have had a very good balance of field work and office work. All project managers I have worked with have been very knowledgeable about the projects and what we are trying to achieve, and are willing to work with you on timing for field work and readily available to answer any questions you may have.

    Cons

The field work can stack up very quickly and you can spend a lot of time away from home. Project managers are helpful with working with you on scheduling and potentially finding other people to cover for you if you get burnt out. We are technically on call for clients at all times in the event of emergency response, so dropping things immediately and having to go somewhere can throw a wrench in things on occasion.

When it gets slow, it gets slow.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and bringing in work.

    Pros

Profit sharing (although profits have been dwindling), unlimited sick and personal time, somewhat flexible work environment.

    Cons

Poor salaries, owners spend money on useless things, owners are not business people, therefore they make poor business decisions.

    Advice to Management

Reward the people that are working hard, take some business classes.

I worked at Leggette, Brashears & Graham, Inc. full-time

    Pros

great exposure to many aspects of the consulting industry
    experienced staff
    a lot of inter-company communication
excellent salary and paid travel expenses
LBG is is just a general good company. A pleasant firm in most regards.

    Cons

difficult to specialize in one particular area
response to oil spills often occurred in places you wouldn't want to ever visit
management can be difficult to accept disagreement
billing pressures can sometimes be a burden to positive environment

    Advice to Management

allow employees to explore new and innovative ways to do their job, do not be so quick to ignore great ideas because the client may or may not like them. It's better to be innovative and break from the mold than to stagnate and continue doing the same ol' thing

I worked at Leggette, Brashears & Graham, Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wide range of interesting projects, professional attitude toward their staff, good facilities and tools, and general high technical ability of the professional staff (peers). Great company to start at right out of school and stay until retirement. Otherwise, you are always an outsider who has no chance of becoming associate or principal. They don't mind spending money on cars, glossy ads, memberships, new software, and new furniture.

    Cons

They have promoted engineers and geologists to management, but technical expertise does not translate to good management. Very little peer mentoring or teaming within or between offices. It’s every man for themselves as each principal/associate tries to keep their clients to themselves. Internal politics rule and you never know who is sleeping with who. Although the corporation is closely held by the principal scientists, they can act like a corporate behemoth. Verbal promises during the hiring process are worthless. Make sure you read the employment agreement, and check that it includes what was promised including vacation, severance, “any non-compete clause”, and car allowance. Unfortunately, you may even need a lawyer to confirm your agreement. My office would throw Christmas parties and summer family get togethers, and none of the principals or management would show up. Since they waste so much money on cars, glossy ads, memberships, new software, and new furniture, they are losing money and are squeezing the productivity.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to submit anonymous reviews about their supervisor to management. Don't screw over employees during separation. It's a small world, and we know each other.
