I worked at Leslie's Swimming Pool Supplies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity to advance, mostly because of high turnover. You gain good business acumen. Fun people to work with.

    Cons

Pay is well below industry average. Turnover is extremely high which causes most of the employees to be inexperienced. In a technical business this becomes very overwhelming and it is a revolving door of employees. Most days you work by yourself so there is no time to take a lunch or even a break. You have to work 6 days for 4 months out of the year with no extra compensation. No company vehicle so I put 100,000 miles on a brand new car in 3 years. No opportunity to grow once you reach the district manager level as most upper level executives are hired from retail grocery and are usually friends of other executive at the business.

    Advice to Management

Upper management is extremely out of touch with the reality of what happens day to day at store level. The pool business is nothing like grocery yet most people that are hired to upper level positions come from grocery. Promote more people from within or hire executives from specialty retail.
