I have been working at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fun office atmosphere, casual, inspirational and rewarding. Managed very well on a national basis.

    Cons

Not managed well on a local basis, lot of turnover in staff leading to shortcomings in local chapter revenue.

    Advice to Management

Ensure Executive Directors are implementing all national standards. Influx in what ED's decide to do and not to do is too wide of a gap from chapter to chapter and creates a negative brand image from city to city for our donors and patients we are assisting.

I worked at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society full-time for more than a year

    Pros

LLS was a good stepping stone into the work force. You could get accustomed to office life, dress code, meetings, etc. Very mission centric giving a lot of appreciation back to the patients, donors and volunteers! Creating a long lasting relationship with patients, donors and volunteers was very easy and incredibly rewarding in the long term. Dr. Lou, CEO is sensational!

    Cons

No work life balance, terrible management on a local level. Very little to no appreciate given to the staff in office.

    Advice to Management

Learn your staff. Learn appropriate bed side manners. Emulate your CEO. Dr. Lou is sensational and carries the mission, message and spirit LLS should have throughout all levels of management both nationally and locally.

I worked at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for more than 3 years

    Pros

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is a great company to work for when it comes to the cause. what your goal is, and helping to fight against blood cancers.

    Cons

What I did not like about working at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was how uncomfortable and clicky the environment was. Some of the women were unkind, although some were not. It wasn't a warm environment. The woman who ran the walk in Essex County a few years ago was extremely rude and unpleasant. Some of the people who worked here are unprofessional.

    Advice to Management

Remember you are at work and not trying to form clicks.

I have been working at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Truly a wonderful mission. The programs are great and many of the people you will meet leave you inspired and with a sense of purpose. The time off is decent and the atmosphere is fairly family friendly in comparison to other businesses. You will work long days and weekends but if your boss is decent you will get that time back another time and don't have to worry about what to do when the kiddies are sick or there's...

    Cons

If only retention of staff was deemed half as important as retention of volunteers. Prepare to be overlooked and undervalued as they move money around for poor management. No investment in staff or concern for their progression and a reputation for hiring poor leadership who watch you struggle to get it all done to attain often times unreasonable goals. It is disheartening to be so motivated by the mission yet so demotivated...

    Advice to Management

Frequent turnover makes it impossible to properly balance tasks and achieve revenue. Invest in your staff and stop treating them as if they don't matter. Believe it or not, the volunteers are watching, and their tie to the organization weakens with every staff transition out of the organization. They want stability and familiarity. No one is going into non profit expecting to be rich. Considering how underpaid we know...

I worked at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The mission of this organization is great! Higher ups are generally passionate about what they are doing which is awesome.

    Cons

The mission of this organization is great - a worthy cause for sure! That said, they treat part time employees quite poorly. With little room for advancement you become dissolutioned with the process quickly.

    Advice to Management

Look internally for promotions - make your employees feel valuable and you will see the returns! It will make a huge difference in turn over - which from what I observed, was incredibly high - even for a nonprofit.

I have been working at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

    Pros

LLS attracts really great people, the people are the best part of working there. There are also great benefits and most holidays are honored.

    Cons

Employees aren't valued from the top down and there is very limited room for growth or career expansion. As an employee you don't feel like you are very appreciated beyond the local level and compensation is on the low end and an uphill battle to increase. There is a VERY high turn over rate. Communication from upper/national management is also poor when it comes to changes and reorganization.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent. Increase investment in employee pathways for growth. Continue attempts to keep up with technology.

      Pros

Great cause and good people. Not everyone can say they help cure cancer for a living!

      Cons
