I have been working at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great mission and humble CEO.

    Cons

The Nebraska chapter Executive Director makes our office life a nightmare. She makes a terrible first impression as it looks like she rolls out of bed to come to work. She constantly starts drama in the office by gossiping about her subordinates and is constantly complaining about her health, board members and personal life. Everyone has to walk on eggshells and it’s a very toxic work environment. All my colleagues love...

    Advice to Management

Just because someone has worked for LLS for a long time does not mean they should move up in management. Also look at the turnover rate and see there is a huge problem.

I worked at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society part-time

    Pros

Great mission; wonderful co-workers and staff who are excellent at their jobs; job satisfaction knowing you are contributing to a good cause

    Cons

Lots of turnover; overworked and underpaid employees, even after multiple record-setting years of fundraising (i.e. positions elminiated, increased hours) ; most issues stem from the chapter leadership; lack of trust in management

    Advice to Management

This used to be a very tight-knit group that was incredibly successful with a family-like atmosphere. All of that has changed under current leadership. National staff needs to take a closer look at the chapter leadership and make changes to avoid losing more talented employees.

    Pros

Great mission. Work with co-workers and volunteers that are passionate about the mission.

    Cons

Leadership at the local level is disorganized. Frequently work nights and weekends. No human resources at local chapter so it is difficult if there is a problem with another employee or your boss.

    Cons

Poor upper management, low morale, expectations were not achievable, flattery of management was rewarded over hard work and dedication. Extremely high turnover and burnout

I have been working at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society full-time

    Pros

Great office team, great PTO benefits, great mission

    Cons

False advertising in terms of opportunities for professional development and promotion. Promotion ultimately decided by National Board of Directors, rather than office executives who know the candidates, and is based primarily on overall chapter performance, rather than individual. Makes it difficult to get promoted despite individual workload.
