I worked at Levolor (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to work closely with other reps as well as have the support of management readily available if the need should arise.

    Cons

Customer service work is extremely fast paced during the peak hours. Even during the off-peak hours the phone calls were fairly constant.

    Advice to Management

Levolor offers a great training program for new hires. You will become well versed in all products as well as presented with various scenarios of potential customer calls and how to handle each.

    Pros

The benefits are ok, they give you some time off but dont really let you use it whenever you want, and be prepared to work holidays because customer service never closes

    Cons

They grand father you in at a snails pace, and there is no feeling of job satisfaction. the harder you work the higher they raise the bar

    Advice to Management

Give more responsibility to employees and a chance to learn more about the business

    Pros

Great time off if you need for family issues, good benefits, nice building to work in

    Cons

Management, favoritism for promotions, layoffs every 7 years due to new CEO's being appointed. You can set your watch to it.

"NAS is NOT A SALES POSITON"

    • Senior Management
Current Employee - National Account Specialist in High Point, NC
Current Employee - National Account Specialist in High Point, NC
    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Good benefits, fair compensation, company vehicle.

    Cons

Poor company communications and upfront description of job and expectioantion. The NAS position is presented as a sales position. The reality is, 90% of your time is merchandising your accounts. If you like resetting stores, working with tools and a drill, you might enjoy this job. If you like professional sales, being able to track and get compensated for your personal success, you'll want to steer clear!

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the postion and daily activities. Understand that if a person has a regional terriotroy and travels, it is unrealastic to expect them to spend 8 hours a day working in accounts when 50 % of their time is also needed to travel between accounts. The NAS postion should be split between store merchandisers and professional account managment trainers and sales people.

    Pros

Good training but start looking after a year.

    Cons

I had three managers in a year. They are number two in the industry because the competition is stable. My territory had 3 reps in 3 years. Work performance not based on numbers more on business Acumen?

    Advice to Management

Less emphasis on daily tasks and more emphasis on connecting with associates to build relationships. Very scattered working environment, 7 days a week is common with no family life balance you are never able catch up with your work. Learn from Bali you have a bad turnover rate and associates do not like the arrogant attitude of managers or trainers when they come to visit.

I worked at Levolor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good work environment
Lots of free shirts for having a good quarter etc.
    Plenty of overtime opportunities

    Cons

    Mandatory overtime I.e. 6 days a week
    12 hour shifts
Some of the bosses are incompetent
    No room for advancement

    Advice to Management

Management doesn't seem to care about employees. Also employees are generally required to work weekends to make up for holidays off.

I have been working at Levolor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A Great Team and direct management to work for. The job has some nice perks (company car, gas, insurance). Strong brand name. Lots of potential! The job has tremendous flexibility and allows you to make your own hours. However, you are required to do many additional duties outside of your job.

    Cons

Lack of investment in the business has seen steady erosion of sales and products. Competition in the marketplace has had a huge negative impact. Upper management refuses to invest into the business or fill vacant sales territories, yet wonders why business continues to be in the red every year.

Lack of any advancement in this division leads to turnover of the younger team members. More experienced folks are burned out. The internal teams work very much in silos, and because of cuts, the Sales force is required to do more and more mundane "office" work to keep up instead of actually out in the market selling.

    Advice to Management

Re-invest in the brands, and go after the more profitable business in the independent world. Listen to your sales staff and provide the funding to implement the changes necessary to grow again.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

The main pro is that you are given the chance to lead your own projects and make recommendations.

Salary and benefits for new hires are decent and well within the average for equivalent positions.

    Cons

Being given the power to lead a project is not the same as being empowered to implement it. Management often waits to question decisions until after it becomes to late to address them, or changes their directions entirely and leave project managers rushing to readjust.

Little to no support during development phases and, since employees from different departments are never evaluated based on participation in product development initiatives, even though it is required. There seemed to be a desire on the part of longtime employees to see newer ones fail, or to stave off changes for the longest possible time.

Longtime managers are fiercely protected by the rest of the management team, to the extent where they can get away with anything, including harassment of all sorts.

    Advice to Management

Keep a much closer eye on your satellite offices. Make sure that employees working remotely from the Atlanta head office feel safe in reporting higher-ups for inappropriate behaviour.
