    Pros

Great benefits, they care for their employees

    Cons

Large company, so it can be difficult to network with others in other divisions.

I have been working at Lexington County Government part-time

    Pros

LFUCG is full of opportunities for advancement, however, finding the right placement might be difficult as most employees are veterans. Many employees have worked here for over the 20 year retirement term and that speaks volumes to those that are new employees seeking long term careers. The benefits are amazing but not available to part time employees.

    Cons

Seems to be a little behind the "times" where technology and processes are concerned. I can imagine that this is mostly due to the "old fashioned" mentality of doing things here. Would be nice if there was a cafeteria or something and perhaps other break rooms with more than 2 vending machines on other floors to prevent having to go to the first floor of a 12 floor building to get a snack.

    Advice to Management

Nothing at this point to suggest.

I worked at Lexington County Government full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Thank goodness for a contract! Without collective bargaining, I'm fairly certain we would still be making minimum wage and using outdated equipment. A strong union has made the Fire Department competitive in compensation and benefits.

    Cons

Back to back unqualified Chiefs have set the Department back 20 years. Incompetent middle and upper Management has lead to low moral throughout the department.

    Advice to Management

Listen to all levels of employees. Sometimes supervisors are the problem!

I worked at Lexington County Government full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

80% of the employees strive to work hard and provide excellent service to the residents. These individuals are a joy to work with and provide the impedance to succeed.

    Cons

The turnover of unprotected employees requires the ongoing training of upper management on the daily operations of a Department. Only 30% of appointed personnel are qualified for the positions they hold.

    Advice to Management

You can't please all the people all the time. Research and review information and make sound decisions based on facts, try to avoid 'the easy route". Think long term, beyond the current budget or election cycle.

I have been working at Lexington County Government full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people that I work with directly are qualified, capable, friendly and like-minded. Additionally, I have strong job security.

    Cons

The ability to move up within the ranks is a downside and I wish that I would work on more meaningful and efficient projects on a regular basis. Would be happy to take on more work for an increase in salary.

    Advice to Management

Do not reward people for doing a poor job.

I worked at Lexington County Government (More than a year)

    Pros

The company offers great medical and dental benefits, paid holidays, vacation, sick time, and personal days. My position also required a lot of driving and a company car was available for use. I was not required to work weekends or be on call and the services I provided impacted the lives of families and clients in a positive way.

    Cons

There is no opportunity for incentive or performance pay raises. There was a lack of varied training opportunities for social workers within the company and no supervision in the department I worked for.

I have been working at Lexington County Government full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good, mainly the time off. I do not get my health insurance through here because it is much more expensive compared to my husband's insurance through his company.

    Cons

The compensation system is not fair.

    Advice to Management

    None.
