I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Teaches you about ergency, escalations, monitoring, different devices and components, a little about Microsoft, Linux, Networking Cisco devices, and a lot of research. I get a great sense of accomplishment after every weekend maintenance, knowing that everything is working for everyone 06:00 am Monday morning.

    Cons

The only thing I can think of as a con would be not knowing what or who a device or application belongs to when I first started. With experience, time and a lot of research nwill allow one to be efficient and proficient in this occupation.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, really valued their employees. Company matched 401k up to 6%, and they had the most affordable health insurance from a company that I had ever seen. i miss the great bonuses, and catered events for employees during the holidays. I worked there for 10 years and greatly miss working there, definitely a job to stay at long term.

    Cons

    I really had no cons.

    Advice to Management

Management was great in my department, no complaints here.

I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work life balance is fairly good. Company is not so much driven by the economy.

    Cons

Most middle management are not qualified and lacking people skills. No incentive to work harder.
Raises and bonus are the same low % throughout the company, whether you produce or don't produce. Below average pay, poor benefits compared to competitors. Not much oppurtunity to get ahead. The UK based company makes a point of hiring non-us citizens and paying them less (India, China, Russia). Slow to promote US citizens.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to a US company that understands American business and the people.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work environment gives you a chance to show how skilled or talented you are with the diverse types of positions available (they hire from within).

    Cons

I did not like the lack of training they provide in the first 3-6 months of the position. It was a little bit of a guessing game to complete the work.

    Advice to Management

Train with lower coworkers so that they can benefit the company in all the ways needed.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Professional, hard working people who are easy to collaborate with and more than willing to help you build internal networks (important when you come to LN via an acquisition). Great sales coaching, training, etc. LN values its sales team and is committed to giving the necessary tools to succeed. Provide an important service to their customers and take community involvement, giving back, etc., seriously.

    Cons

The legal research industry as a whole is changing and LN is no different. That's not necessarily a bad thing though since just as many doors are opened as they are closed.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for investing so much in my professional sales growth and training.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well-defined business units and growth objectives. Co-workers are easy to work with, talented and smart. Business is fairly mature but opportunities to grow still exist and are being actively pursued.

    Cons

Pay is below market, and sometimes it takes longer than expected to get an initiative approved for development and in the queue.

    Advice to Management

Work more to identify and exploit new market opportunities -- investing in promotion and research where possible.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule. Do not really care the hours you put in. Just get the work done.

    Cons

Heavy work load. As people leave no back end replacement.

    Advice to Management

Too much work for the number of people.

    Pros

The work is very interesting; the people are good

    Cons

The legal department went through a violent change when ChoicePoint was purchased by LexisNexis, resulting in the CP remaining leadership focused solely on their career. Leadership does not control information to use at their advantage and focuses on the needs of the team, not just their own career.

    Advice to Management

    Get some leaders

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Tuition reimbursement. Many locations in the area. Many locations around the world. Laid back atmosphere. Paid vacation and holidays.

    Cons

I need more communication and clarity with speech and emails. Inconsistent leadership. Continuous work, it seems that we are never caught up. Almost no chances to progress in career.
