I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work/life balance. Solid benefits. Lots of training/investment in professional development.

    Cons

Ever-changing strategy/focus. Marketing is non-existent, so sales is pretty much on its own (with no money) to try and promote the brand and build customer relationships.

    Advice to Management

Stop making decisions based on meeting current quarter expectations and stock price; think longer term in order to have long-term, sustainable success and growth.

    Pros

    Travel internationally, good co-workers.

    Cons

Laid off after more than 32 years with the company. Always met/exceeded sales goals but thats not what really matters. Took me over a year and a half to find another job at my age. Absolutely no ethical perspective.

    Advice to Management

    Retire

I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, strong corporate reputation, coaching environment, autonomy to make decisions.

    Cons

Despite constant over achievement there is limited upward mobility due to backlog of VPs, low growth and shrinking sales force.

    Advice to Management

Stay on course to solve back office issues. Your people are still your key assets.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worldwide recognized brand with over 35K sources of information ranging from News, Public Records, to Academic articles. As with most places, your experience on the job will depend on who your manager is. Most folks are home-based.

    Cons

It's an enormous company so it can be slow in adopting and implementing new ideas and rolling out new products.

    Advice to Management

Develop and communicate Vision internally with a 2 year executable plan/course. Things have been changing very quickly around how people consume/use information and the overall "pie" is getting smaller, so laying out a Medium-Term Executable approach will do wonders to improve employee's outlook on their ability to demonstrate success.

I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company, for the most part, cares about its clients, the community, and the employees. They want to develop good employees and bend over backwards to move the lousy employees with diplomacy and aplomb

    Cons

They pay less - period - I moved on to earn nearly double my total earnings.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Siebel systems. They stink. Salesforce is a million times better. Don't separate government accounts into legal and risk. You have a few VPs that are average and unethical and you know who they are - get rid of them. Look at your salaries for employess with 7+ yrs experience. You are losing the good ones, like me, because you don't pay enough. You don't have to be equal other companies but you need to be closer. WL pays close to 50% more for similar roles.

    Pros

Well respected name in legal community. Co-workers are like minded and intelligent for the most part. Good paycheck. Always acquiring new products which is great for sales people. Good place to work overall when you realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

    Cons

Upper management talks a lot about valuing the people who work here but the words never come across to the employees in actions. This used to be a great place to work but it's definitely a much different atmosphere than a few years ago. Very stressful job. You don't realize how stressful it is until you leave it. Yes, there is I've after Lexis!

    Advice to Management

Show your people you care about their dedication and performance. Words speak louder than action. Talking about it at National Sales Meetings and proclaiming it during Spirit Week isn't resonating with your sales force. If you want to keep your best sales people pay them accordingly instead of decreasing their income via decisive comp plans. Pay has deceased steadily for the past 5 years.

    Pros

Good benefits. At the lower levels there are a lot of good people trying very hard to maintain this Company's credibility and relevance in the market. Some decent products. Strong commitment to community giving and corporate responsibility.

    Cons

Core values: arrogance, greed, ignorance, envy. Senior management is singularly focused on padding their own resumes and lining their own pockets. Individual contributors and first-line managers are treated like inventory. Most products we sell to customers don't work and likely never will; all products are grossly overpriced to create sinful profit margins.

    Advice to Management

Offering advice to the leadership of LexisNexis is an exercise in futility - unless you're charging them for it. The only advice they'll heed comes from outsiders - whiz-bang consultants with little understanding of our industry, no concern for our clients, and little care for the long-term effects of their poor advice.

    Pros

Good products, good strategic vision, good industry, good opportunity for advancement. All good...not great, not bad.

    Cons

Largely viewed as the #2 player in a duopoly market. If it's a close choice between LN and "the other guy," they often go with "the other guy." Senior Management overvalues the advice given by outside consultants with Harvard MBAs and fails to use the free information in front of their noses - the input from their sales force and their customers.

    Advice to Management

Put more faith in the input you receive from the sales force in the trenches than you do in the advice you get from the outside consultants that don't have a clue.
