I have been working at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management is very laid-back and lax on many issues that would send most large businesses into fits. You can work from home if you need to, or if you're sick.

    Cons

The company is constantly acquiring and divesting products which means one thing: constant restructuring. Most of the "layoffs" are just rounds of contractor terminations, but that's just putting lipstick on a pig: either way, you suddenly have fewer team members when you come to work one day. The employees that are left are shifted between projects - suddenly and without warning - like chess pieces. If you're a software engineer - like me! - this means that the code is built by short-termers who have little to no idea what the product or module does, or why it does it, which in turn means the code quality is buried somewhere deep beneath the basement. Quarterly and monthly "Town Halls" provide no insight into the restructuring plans and feel like massive wastes of time and company resources. Employees do their managers' jobs in terms of creating evaluations and career plans - none of which ever go anywhere, and feel like massive wastes of time. The company feels volatile, there's very little sense of job security, and there's no real transparency with management. But if you can handle all of that, it's a great place to work!

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to make the company feel like a stable and safe environment to work in. Also, please come to the realization that KPOs and PDPs are utterly useless unless they are created by the employee's manager AND someone is following up on them.

I worked at LexisNexis Legal & Professional full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent team members, interesting technical and operational issues to work on, great benefits (401k match, PTO, etc). Fair work/life balance - work hard, play hard if you were a performer.

    Cons

Constant lay-offs in response to shrinking revenues and need to pay for significant back-end investments. Management can't stick to a goal for more than a year; when it gets tough, they fold.

    Advice to Management

Empower your staff to do the hard work. When it gets tough, back them up.

    Advice to Management
