I worked at Lexmark International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It was once a great place, with scrappy people and a "satisfy the customer" attitude.

    Cons

    Geeze. Where to begin?

Strategically, the company has no place to go. Print is dying, quickly. Moreover, companies that *are* buying print aren't using consumables like they once did. The Imaging R&D can't justify its budget, so expect cuts every year from now on, if not every quarter.

That last flight of super-expensive devices went "thud" in the market, didn't it? You didn't need to develop it in the *FIRST PLACE*, but you needed to justify that R&D budget for another 5 years.

The software business is a mess and will be sold-off for pennies on the dollar. The "Phoenix Kofax" will still be run by its megalomanical CEO. That pernicious potentate thinks he's another Steve Jobs, so act accordingly employees.

Then there's management. Choose your metaphor: Lifeboat...melting iceberg...sinking ship. Whatever the case, they keep kicking out people who disagreed with them, so the standard cadre of sycophants are left. Hopefully APEX gets that and has cleaned house, but who knows?

    Advice to Management

You're no longer wasting shareholder money and time, so congrats. You succeeded in living off consumables profits waiting for the music to stop. It's stopped.

I have been working at Lexmark International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company used to be called Perceptive Software and the culture and product and team synergy was awesome. It was definitely one of the best work experiences I've had.

    Cons

The company was recently purchased and another company that was bought along the way is absorbing everyone and there have been layoffs and technology shifts that move towards making rapid money fast and no care for a leading quality product.

    Advice to Management

There isn't much advice to give to management. The management above us have either left or are doing their best to try and keep what we had. But it's a sinking ship right now with a dismal outlook.

I have been working at Lexmark International full-time

    Pros

The people that work at Lexmark are what make it worth it. Everyone cares about each other and creating innovative work.

    Cons

With the company being sold off to the Chinese, the entire community has changed. The organization has been flipped upside down and is moving back to solely selling hardware... honestly a dying industry. If people aren't leaving they are being released from their jobs left and right. Change is good but I only see Lexmark going downhill from here.

    Advice to Management

Management has been so aggressive with budget cuts and firing that I feel like I could walk out of here without a job any day now. There hasn't been any excitement or incentives to rejuvenate employees - morale is so low and management doesn't seem to care.

    Cons

Kofax management has taken over and they don't care about people/culture.

    Pros

The work life balance is great. When the company has no idea what to do, they dont really care if employees show up.

    Cons

Lexmark's commitment to status quo is unrelenting.

    Advice to Management

Hire more senior management from outside, the culture is a cost reduction, risk mitigation, non innovate rut. This won't change if senior management continues to be promoted from within.

    Pros

Nice people generally speaking. Management will applaud you for the silliest accomplishments (everyone gets a trophy mentality) Work from home and flexibility

    Cons

Zero vision by executive management. They are too busy rewarding shareholders and lining their own pockets bc they happen to own a lot of shares too. Overpaid for software companies that they never integrated and bought them bc LXK couldn't grow organically. A Chinese consortium is to be the owner which should scare away anyone that is thinking of working here. NO career growth, unless your brother, uncle, mother or father are still there. Lots of talented salespeople left bc of poor management and moving the goal posts with commissions and quotas. Not a professional way to keep your sales team happy. Executives like reports and micromanaging. It is not a job for a true salesperson who wants to make money, but rather one who talks a good game and is happy with mediocre commissions.

    Advice to Management

    Resign.

    Pros

Currently not much reason to work there.

    Cons

Over weight with management. No vision from CEO or management for the printer business. Spent all cash on software company's that still struggle to make any type of profit. Currently sold to Chinese company who is probably more interested in bleeding the profit from current cartridge sales than continuing any new hardware designs. Stuck on trying to send all engineering jobs to Cebu.

    Advice to Management

Move to Cebu or jump off a cliff.

You will of course be selling a product sold as one thing but functioning as another! Some people would say this is a con!

    Advice to Management

Cool your ego and develop a product that full fills the marketing BS.
