I have been working at Lexmark International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company used to be called Perceptive Software and the culture and product and team synergy was awesome. It was definitely one of the best work experiences I've had.

    Cons

The company was recently purchased and another company that was bought along the way is absorbing everyone and there have been layoffs and technology shifts that move towards making rapid money fast and no care for a leading quality product.

    Advice to Management

There isn't much advice to give to management. The management above us have either left or are doing their best to try and keep what we had. But it's a sinking ship right now with a dismal outlook.

I have been working at Lexmark International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employees from legacy software companies make this a great place to work. Legacy direct management is also strong, and committed to working with their direct reports

    Cons

A shift in senior executives has given a lot of employees heartburn, as the "start-up" mentality has faded. Also, a strategic product roadmap can rarely be followed.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in the employees who remain, as they are a great asset!

I worked at Lexmark International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great team in Lenexa office; unlimited PTO; flexible work schedules

    Cons

Software CEO that took over in 2015 is an ego maniac - killed off the profitable products in exchange for his legacy products. Went from leader quadrant in Forrestor, Gartner to nowhere to be found in 1 year with him at the helm.

    Advice to Management

To the CEO and his croonies in Irvine - LEAVE. You have wrecked the company. Leave while there is something left to salvage.

I worked at Lexmark International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good people, great facility, good management in Lenexa

    Cons

No vision, lack of concrete strategy, Lenexa is now a satellite office, poor upper level management.

    Advice to Management

Employees need to feel connected to the strategy. All decisions are made to line pockets of upper management, not to engage employees or create a company with any sort of longevity. So much potential, however the former Perceptive Software has deteriorated to next to nothing. It's too bad considering the caliber of employees and early vision.

I have been working at Lexmark International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Above average pay, great vacation (unlimited)...
Lexmark has a lot of great people working for them...

    Cons

The recent buyout by China has made the future uncertain. In the last 4 years, the company has seemingly had 4 or 5 personalities. Complete overhaul at the top (of the US side) could bring greatness, or unemployment.

    Advice to Management

Wow. What advice can you give a guy whose had the job for a month?

For middle management, I'd suggest accountability, knowing who is doing most of the work in your department, and attempting to balance that workload properly.

    Pros

Many talented people to work with, great opportunities for career development

    Cons

Company is very insular, way too focused internally, lack of vision and heavy with politics

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the 'softer' side of business, act like employees really are your greatest asset, get out of the office and in front of customers more!
