Unclear long-term strategy of new owners as it relates to increasing the investment in R&D within Lexington, KY

    Advice to Management

Retention incentives are normally used to retain high performing employees during signficant change.

    Pros

Work Life balance is excellent, unlimited vacation.

    Cons

Upper management has no idea what they are doing. Tons of money wasted buying companies followed by multiple rounds of layoffs. Now owned by a Chinese consortium.

I have been working at Lexmark International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

In the past, Lexmark has been a pretty good company to work for. Much depended on your manager (as with a lot of companies) but overall, it's been a good place to work.

    Cons

Recently acquired by a Chinese conglomerate, major overhaul of the organization and lack of communication by the new leaders make working here a challenge right now.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your people...even if you don't have answers right now, just some kind of communication would be greatly appreciated.

I have been working at Lexmark International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

My peers are amazing engineers and great collaborators. Leadership within the Lenexa office is doing their best given circumstances and they have my fullest respect.

    Cons

I have worked in the KC area office for eight years. R&D team and management has always been great and my superiors always advocated for their engineers, but now that is changing. Leadership has changed and made it clear they plan to sell. Those that advocated for us have either been pushed out or seen the signs and left. The good days are done here. It Is never good when your VP and officers refer to their developers as "code monkeys". That actually happened...

    Advice to Management

If your goal was to get what money you can and run, then you're on track. If you're looking to be a good leader, then start by at least pretending you care about your employees. We're not nearly as stupid as you think we are.

    Pros

Good company with a historically solid product offering. Plenty of opportunity for a up and coming professional.

    Cons

Hard to gain traction with new ideas. Company really doesn't innovate very well outside of R and D.

    Advice to Management

Be more reactive to customer needs and decrease the time to market for internal initiatives.
