I have been working at Lhoist full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At plant level, teams are close, plenty to do, lots of learning opportunities.

    Cons

Some corporate functions have room to improve.

    Advice to Management

Focus on plant needs and communication, and less time on corporate cost reduction initiatives. There is still lots of low hanging fruit at the plants. Give the plants the resources they need to be successful.

I worked at Lhoist full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked for them for 15 years until Scottsdale office was closed. Company was revamped by owners in Belgium. Treatment of employees was excellent with annual raises, 401k and retirement plan that was cancelled in 2015 for future employees. Paid holidays and number of paid vacation days increased with years of employment.

    Cons

Closed office I was attached to.

    Advice to Management

If problems exist within the confines of the company, ask employees for their input on remedies rather than employing outside consultants that are not familiar with this unique mining company.

I worked at Lhoist full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great insurance, great benefits Courage, Integrity, Respect is a great idea if you live it all the time and not only when convenient... Management is disingenuous at best.

    Cons

When I left the company my name was misspelled 5 different ways in company emails, letterhead and addresses. Maintenance at each plant is a joke. Safety at each plant is a joke. Plant managers in general have no control over their plants in a positive manner. 2 different plant managers were guilty of "drunk dialing" shift supervisors and maintenance supervisors in less than 6 months.

    Advice to Management

When you wish to change you must abolish the "good ol boy" system being used for contracting and abolish the protections of your plant managers. The union is needed at this company to keep it running. The management has created a monster through their ignorance and inability to listen to their employees..
