I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful office space and good work/life balance. New paid maternity program starting in 2018. Flexibility to learn and move around between departments is encouraged. Strong culture centered on doing the right thing and philanthropy.

    Cons

Health Insurance changes, poor executive leadership, outdated thinking (agile and flex space were done a decade ago by leading companies and are just now being poorly introduced at Liberty), along with a doomsday outlook have most people leaving or looking for employment elsewhere. Workplace bullying is alive & well and also not addressed by management. All they talk about is getting on the Best Places to work list, yet do nothing to get there. Company needs a serious overhaul of the executive team to stay relevant.

    Advice to Management

Executive leadership needs to come to terms with reality and stop talking/start listening. They fly around on what the globe calls an airforce of corporate jets and then put signs everywhere reminding employees to save money by printing on both sides of the paper. For real? Does this not even remotely seem ridiculous to execs as they board at the multi million dollar hangar in Bedford? People want to love working here and you can so easily make some quick actionable changes to get us there. Actions speak so much louder than your tone deaf words. Please lead by example and help us love being here again. CEO needs to stop hiding in his $4.5M dollar secret cave.

    Pros

Good work life balance and friendly corporate culture. Well paid and opportunity to move internally quite a bit

    Cons

culture is changing a lot. Lack of stability makes the company feel less secure

    Advice to Management

Promotion to management should only happen to those who are good manager, vs. just been there long enough and that's the next path

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Competitive starting salaries
    Bonus potential
    401k match

    Cons

Salary starts off competitive but no manager direction and no way to grow.
    Not enough clarity from leaders
    Political
    Little diversity

    Advice to Management

Reward merit by being consistent about how to succeed.
Be transparent. Your thousand foot view is great for you and doesn't tell your individual contributors what it means for them. Cut down on how many big long meetings and don't let senior leaders use the whole time to talk about just their accomplishments.
Replace bad senior leaders instead of promoting them all the time.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance (More than 3 years)

    Pros

During my time there, it felt like I would have stable work for many years to come.. almost everyone I worked with had been with the company for at least 10 years.

    Cons

It's an old company, where many have been there for years if not decades. This can sometimes lead to certain things done in a way that is slow/probably slower than any other place I've worked.

    Pros

    Great paternity leave (8 weeks)!

    Advice to Management

Senior IT leadership has lead the company to significant losses over the last 3 years. I think there needs to be change.
