I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Development of employees is excellent. Peers are excellent resources. Management attempts to be transparent-not always completely.

    Cons

Business comes before employees which, in most cases, makes sense. Executive management is not completely transparent to the employees.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great culture for post-MBA, challenging work, supportive managers. Unlike other large corporate environments there's no pressure to burn the midnight oil

    Cons

Everything is communicated via PowerPoint. Management is heavily layered. They want to be a tech-focused company but culture has a long way to go before they'll compete for top tech talent.

    Advice to Management

Understand that non-$ benefits are incredibly important and that 2 weeks of parental leave doesn't city it to be an employer of choice in a competitive job environment

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I really enjoyed meeting with all the different industrial clients. It was a great education in terms of knowing how so many things are made and what the occupational health risks were for those clients. The job also really enjoyed the people I worked with. a fun group!

    Cons

Some times the travel was a bit much. There were weeks I'd head out on a trip Sunday evening and get back Friday night.

    Advice to Management

Many competitors don't use the loss source analysis approach to loss prevention. Liberty Mutual was WAY ahead on this when I worked there.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Pay, good location, very good place to start

    Cons

Its an extremely old school company, they switched the dress code to business casual from full business a few years ago and thought it was the most innovative workplace change in human history.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was with a really awesome team! Not sure if every other intern's team was this great, but I had a great experience. Nice laid-back, productive people. Not annoying let you get your work done. Good pay. Good days off.

    Cons

Not many cons to be honest. Great experience at least for me.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time

    Pros

Great people, great working flexibility and work/life balance (at least in IT - can't speak for the markets), determined to be cutting edge in IT

    Cons

Health insurance offerings have gone from top notch to bottom of the barrel; certain areas seem to have difficulty supporting career growth for women; limited management opportunities in IT due to organizational changes

    Advice to Management

Bring back great health insurance, do a better job of supporting career growth for women in all areas of the organization

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits. Good work/life balance and work from home opportunities. The company is great but the job is not.

    Cons

Management does not communicate things well. The position does not give you many transferable skills other than customer service. Also a lack of recognition for hard work.

    Advice to Management

Learn to manage and develop people better and recognize them for good work.
