I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Friendly people, Fortune 100 company

    Cons

Non-competitive rates, company went cheap, cut over time hours, cut bonus', no growth opportunity, deceptive practices to gain business is encouraged. Culture is very challenging, heirarcy is extremely prominent. Customer service is not a focus throughout the company, especially in claims. Middle management focuses on the wrong things. High medical deductibles and expensive policies. Work Life Balance is terrible compared to when I started!

    Advice to Management

Stop over hiring and stop hiring inexperienced people.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay for an intern was awesome.
Insurance is not a confusing product
    Easy licensing

    Cons

It really depends on who your rep is, if you don't have a rep who is involved then you won't have a good experience, same goes for the branch manager
Insurance is a numbers game, so while I was there Liberty's rates were almost double a lot of the time, so it's hard to sell when other insurance companies are selling essentially the same thing, but for much less

    Advice to Management

Keep better track of intern/rep relationships

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is amazing for an internship.
Benefits and time off is very flexible, but based on your branch manager and the sales rep you work for.
Great Culture, but varies by each office.
I work for an incredible sales rep, she's one of the top in my state but she's also very invested in my development and how I feel about the job. Whenever the work gets boring she helps me find new aspects of the job to work on and train my skills in.

    Cons

Drastic company structure and international investments have been forcing perpetual changes to both the organization and the structure of it. In the short term, this means that our product is going through drastic pricing changes that are erratic and make it hard to generate consistent sales, but in the long term this means that we can expect to see both an improved and highly competitive product and company to work for in the future.
As an intern you get high base pay but no compensation for sales unless your sales rep decides to give you compensation themselves.
Management is under supported in how they both manage and lead their teams, but this is something that Liberty Mutual is currently investing heavily into fixing.
Sales reps are provided little to no training on how to work with an intern, many times interns are used to do grunt work unless you specify what you are looking to accomplish in your internship.

    Advice to Management

Focus just as much on your older sales reps and interns as you do on the new sales reps and interns. Retention of current employees is more valuable than retention of new/untrained employees.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, professional environment, salary is comparable to market, company trying hard to improve customer service and employee engagement. Allowed me to work at home.

    Cons

Have to work overtime daily to meet numbers, have to meet required monthly numbers regardless of vacation days, absolutely no work-life balance, management does not listen to the staff issues, production metrics has become impossible to meet, poses as a health hazard to the staff and family.

    Advice to Management

There is substance in what your staff thinks and feel towards the current work situation in the company so please listen to them. Please fix the work-life imbalance right now - it's draining/zapping the energy of your employees.

    Pros

Liberty Mutual Insurance was one of the better companies to work for. They have always treated me okay.

    Cons

Some of the managers were too young and inexperienced for the position they were given, but over all, you could not ask for a better company to work for.

    Advice to Management

You live and you learn. It all turns out okay if given a chance.

    Pros

    Great benefits. Wonderful coworkers.

    Cons

No room for advancement. After many many years they are moving the position to another area and will not hire service for current available sales associates.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. Tell them the truth always. Think about the talent that has been thrown away.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can be very lucrative for the right person. If you are meeting and exceeding your numbers consistently you are left alone and given a lot of flexibility

    Cons

You are a captive agent so your sales can be very different from one year to the next because the company decides to increase rates (this was a trend).

    Advice to Management

hire and train very driven people that have never been in insurance. this is not for those that have been brokers in the past.
