I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, health, dental, matching 401k. Good training and support. The team is very supportive of each other and they do provide many tools to allow for success

    Cons

Very high pressure to keep selling and make quota. Had a very supportive sales manager but then we had a change in management and the next one was clueless.

    Advice to Management

Don't bring sales managers in that have never sold themselves. There is no respect by the sales team.

"Incredibly Stressful and No Work Life Balance"

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, flexible scheduling, i.e. work from home for agents who perform well.

    Cons

Poor lead sources from customers who do not represent the company's target audience, no work life balance, high stress due to high goals and obligation to pay company back for policies canceled within 6 months of issue.

    Advice to Management

Stop being passive aggressive and get real. Do you want to be a quality company or a quantity company? Stop marketing to people you do not consider to be your target market. If you do not want people with limited experience, poor credit, or living in certain States, i.e. Georgia, then do not market to those individuals. It's no secret you are looking for the college educated, married, homeowner with multiple vehicles, and assets to support the need for umbrella coverage. Do yourselves and your stressed out employees a favor and market to those individual. Go back to sending out mailers to college alums, boy and girl scouts, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, UPS, American Airlines, AICPA, etc and get rid of the credit unions (CUNA) and USAA civilians leads. And please be honest, you are eventually going to lose your partnership with USAA because you will never be on the level of service they offer to their members. If you want to market to certain financial institutions, send your affinity mailers to Charles Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard employees. You'll find those customers are going to be more of your target market. And for what it's worth, stop doing the spray and pray with your television ads because it's attracting that 50% down payment customer. Stop advertising when Mama June, Duck Dynasty, and Rap Game are on and start marketing on CNBC, Fox Business News, and MSNBC. And for God's sake, start listening to your employees. Lastly, stop sending out monthly surveys and throwing out the lowest score because you do not like the way it affects the curve. Being intellectually dishonest is not a good quality in a company or individual.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility and benefits, great place to start a career...but not to stay, unless you are willing to cheat the system...regional management will love and promote you.

    Cons

Liberty Mutual was built on being a personal agent, now they are only focused on a "turn and burn" strategy. Customers can long forget the access to an agent they once knew, Agents are taught and paid to focus only on new business and ignore customer service requests unless it will lead to a sale. The customer service agents are also slammed with phone call after phone call about the huge price increases that come every year. They don't understand the "broad" statements advertised on the commercial vs the fine print...as with all companies. There is no difference now between a Gieco or a Liberty Mutual.. Clients want lower costs especially when most popular companies provide the same claims services and benefits.

    Advice to Management

Stop denying what your agents have told management over the years about what the client wants. Management (especially Regional/ area) will outright lie to your face about future plans within the company and smile while doing it. This company has completely changed over the years. In addition, cheating the system actually gets rewarded year in and year out without penalty, except if you dont cheat, you will be asked why your numbers dont match the "offender," even when management knows but denies the offense is going on.
