I worked at Life Technologies full-time

    Pros

Very friendly colleagues. Always willing to help. Great managers. Good work life balance. Very supportive for entry level scientists! Performance perks and bonuses are great!

    Cons

Internal transitions are hard making it a challenge to explore opportunities within the company. Salaries can be better but not bad.

I worked at Life Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary, annual bonus, challenging work, plenty of new technology.

    Cons

High level of stress, on-calls were brutal, a lot of middle management calling the shots but not enough Indians.

I worked at Life Technologies full-time

    Pros

In general, a nice group of people with a positive environment-not so with my department

    Cons

Several people were not properly vetted from the legacy company and more than one person slipped in who did not have the credentials. Saw repeated examples of data fabrication.

    Advice to Management

When you know there is a problem, you don't parrot back "Well he was on a performance plan and not doing well-sorry you got the brunt of it".

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Life Technologies full-time

    Pros

Have solid benefits. Easy to reward fellow employees. Was easy to make my own hours to fit my personal schedule

    Cons

Giant corporation. There is a fair amount of the "corporate culture" exercises you have to put up with, but all jobs have some level of this

    Advice to Management

If you expect a certain level of output from your employees, the best way to promote that is to show that same level of output in your own work.

    Pros

Co-workers were awesome; good place for someone just starting out in the industry; benefits were pretty great as well

    Cons

Not much room for career development and personal growth; Would have been a better experience if management was a little more involved and had their staff more engaged.

I worked at Life Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people. Not so so bad compared with some places

    Cons

Very very VERY low salary. I got paid more as a contractor at life tech then as a full time employee. Compared with similar jobs in the DC metro area they are at least 25% lower than the rest.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring contractors. You want good workers? Pay more, otherwise all you draw in are terrible workers.. All of the managers wonder why all they have are terrible employees. Go to HR
