I worked at Life Time Fitness full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free club membership is nice. The club facilities really are top notch.

    Cons

All of the talk about work/life balance, sales opportunity, team work, etc. was just that: Talk. It's a "what have you done for me lately" culture from top to bottom.

    Advice to Management

Just tell the truth. Instead of trying to make the sales opportunity sound like something employees would be excited about, just describe what it's actually like and let adults make informed decisions about their career.

I worked at Life Time Fitness full-time

    Pros

Easy to move up - all you have to do is stay there for a little.
Good if you want to do the bare minimum.
    Good work life balance

    Cons

Very, very poor training and education. Then employees were blamed for when things went wrong.
    No trust / autonomy.
    No recognition.
Only care about money moving to the top.
Very hierarchical, structured, and corporate. Some people like that, but it wasn't for me.

    Advice to Management

Provide better training, listen to employees, and don't blame subordinates when problems arise.

    Pros

    Good people, free gym membership

    Cons

The Athlinks division is pretty bad. Disorganized and shady.

    Advice to Management

If you are potentially applying to an Athlinks role, look up "Athlinks" in "Louisville, CO" on Glassdoor. Then work somewhere else.

    Pros

Coworkers are amazing people to work with (they’re unhappy also)

    Cons

Management and upper management is horrible

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with upper management to be on the same page. Novody knows exactly what’s going on.

    Pros

Great family environment; life long relationships are built; able to "wear many hats" - no day is boring.

    Cons

I was a Manager over a department for years. Upper level leadership is beyond the level of politics I typically see in companies. The pay does not come to equate to the time and energy you put in. If you work at a slower club and have at least one honest and competent leader, it is tolerable. Unfortunately even if you find yourself in that situation, it won't last.

I have been working at Life Time Fitness full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free membership. Nice facility when first opened. Newest equipment and technology.

    Cons

Staff always calls out or quits. Management doesn’t care. Facility looks beat up after a few months. Members and their kids are allowed to pretty much tear up the place and nothing is done.

    Advice to Management

Speak up to the members. You have more than enough so who cares if someone cancels because you made their kids stop damaging property or act like normal human being.

I worked at Life Time Fitness full-time

    Pros

Manager in Training and fellow team members were great!

    Cons

I was hired for one position that was obviously not needed at the time. The Department manager was unavailable and remained in the office without engaging the members. I was working for over 1 month and was not given a uniform. I was asked to wear a uniform that belonged to another team member because a corporate leader was visiting the facility. There were a few instances where I asked for assistance with an issue and was denied the help.

    Advice to Management

Create a more thorough evaluation for the department managers. Focus more on the team members who are on the front-line of customer service.

I worked at Life Time Fitness part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You meet and work with wonderful people! From the club members to your fellow team members you come in contact with and interact with a wide range of individuals. And you get a free gym membership.

    Cons

There is constant pressure to market and sell with the guise of building "your" business but this company is all about profit and it made me feel manipulated. Lots of subtle threats such as be ready to recite mission statement verbatim at any time or risk termination. Huge turnover of employees.

    Advice to Management

    Don't sell your soul!
I worked for this company twice - 4 years the first time and less than a year the second time. I resigned both times.
