I have been working at LifeCare Hospitals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I work with a great set of nurses, who are top in their field. The ICU staff is very knowledgeable and have a great skill set, and the med-surge nurses are very caring and take excellent care of their patients. I think that one of the biggest compliments that you can give a fellow nurse is that you would pick them to be your family's nurse. This place really does care for their patients, and I highly recommend it.

    Cons

Sometimes staffing gets canceled due to low census. I really do not like being canceled, which doesn't happen often, but bothers me when it does.

    Advice to Management

I would love to have a nice healthy raise!

I worked at LifeCare Hospitals full-time

    Pros

Good amount PTO, medical and dental are good

    Cons

Can't use PTO due to staffing issues. Management never demonstrates teamwork or collaboration. Very disruptive management in general.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to seek out managers who can lead through teambuilding, not yelling or threats. Proactive would be nice. Demonstrating teamwork is very lacking and disruptions are high.

    Pros

Good coworkers , reasonable salary , normal hospital hours and shifts , 3 different campuses to work at in the city

    Cons

Upper management is working on getting better not quite there yet. Management has a revolving door at the moment and it makes employees uneasy

    Advice to Management

Such a revolving door of management makes employees uneasy

I worked at LifeCare Hospitals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at LifeCare was good. It was a mixture of Hospital and Nursing Home. Although the company had a hiring freeze on for about 2 years previous to me hiring on the pay was good.

    Cons

Due to the wage freeze that occurred about 2 years before I hired on, the moral of the employees across the board was/is very low. Its very hard to provide excellent patient care when this occurs. Something has to give in order for the moral to be mended, whether its a pay raise or something.

    Advice to Management

please do not make cheesy efforts in order to try and make due for a temporary fix. any efforts in this area needs to be sincere and genuine, not cheesy.

I worked at LifeCare Hospitals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

LifeCare was one of the most flexible and rewarding environments I've ever been in. I was able to learn so many things with this company because they weren't "over-layered" with unnecessary positions. They ran lean and mean, which allowed me to learn so many things I wouldn't have been able to touch in a larger environment. The healthcare industry is being squeezed everywhere, and LifeCare did a great job of keeping the lights on while still trying to take care of it's employees. I had to leave to go to another company to realize that the Senior Leadership team at LifeCare is one-of-a-kind. Good, salt of the earth people, that know what they're doing.

    Cons

As with any lean company, you can be over-worked sometimes, but it was well worth it to learn so many things at the start of my career.

    Advice to Management

Continue practices of employee engagement. Your Mentorship Program and Employee Assistance Fund were great additions in 2016. :)

I worked at LifeCare Hospitals part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Caring, supportive, and motivating/inspiring CEO, Directors, and Management
    - Promotion of a customer service oriented environment and pursuit of excellence
    - Friendly environment and culture among peers
    - Transparent and approachable management
    - Abundant opportunities to learn and grow through training, curriculum, workshops, and mentorship; (in addition to opportunities to advance to leadership through performance)

    Cons

    - Despite having a focus on excellent customer service, it can occasionally veer of course through daily rigors over time
    - Communication among peers and management (that isn't face to face,) can be at times slow and inefficient, (especially regarding emails, voicemails, and top-down announcements from management to staff)
    - Due to the long, tedious, and difficult nature of the jobs at hand, occasional conflict among peers or performance burnout can occur over time (as naturally seen throughout the healthcare industry)

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting excellent customer service practices in addition to regularly evaluating, correcting, and rewarding them.

Additionally, refine communication lines among management and down to the staff so that announcements, changes in policy/procedure, and notices/duties/action-required items are fulfilled in a timely and efficient manner.
