I worked at Lighting Science Group (More than a year)

    Pros

The People are generally friendly and helpful. The location is convenient and since most departments are on the same complex reaching who you need to talk to is relatively easy.

    Cons

The company changes Senior Management and the direction of the company frequently. Communication between departments is almost non-existent. Problems could be avoided or at least minimized if communication was encouraged.

    Advice to Management

Pick a direction and a team and stick with it. Communicate to your employees before, during and after changes. Break up all of the empires that exist.

I have been working at Lighting Science Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The company has Great Benefits

    Cons

Top heavy with lack of direction, lied to employees about the future of the company. Did not respect the hard work and dedication of its employees and treated us as if we were a sweat shop.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees the way you would want to be treated. All these MBA's and no direction or leadership skills.

    Pros

Infant new growing company with a great product line and has potential to be an outstanding business. Like any new business if you can endure the growing pains worth working for. Excellent as a short term employment.

    Cons

Top heavy with no middle management. Requires excessive overtime especially for salaried staff. High turn over ratio. Most staff are with the company less than 1 year. Most assembly staff are temp employees with no guarantee of 40 hour work weeks.

    Advice to Management

Trim top level management and fill the middle gap. Focus and correct high turn over ratio. Improve local reputation of company, word on the street is company is a sweat shop. Improve appearance of working environment to attract talent.

    Pros

Some very good people work there

    Cons

Some very bad people work there. Take a look at their financials and the turnover rate at the upper management levels. Well managed and positioned companies do not regularly face these issues as Lighting Science does on it seems like a monthly basis.

    Advice to Management

Let business people make business decisions. Let engineering people make engineering decisions
