I worked at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are actually pretty good and that's about the only positive thing I can say about this company.

    Cons

Unless you are prepared to kiss management's butt, don't expect to advance at Lincoln. Management will intervene when you attempt to transfer to another department and you will be stuck in your current role...UNLESS you made friends with the right management. Current employees - ask your manager's about six box.

    Advice to Management

Do away with current culture. The good ol boys attitudes need to disappear and promotions/success should be determined on the employee's skills and abilities; not who attends the most functions at a VP's house.

I worked at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. They offer a competitive 401k that matches up to 6% and contributes 4% without you doing anything (as of 2013). The health insurance is also inexpensive for 6 times your pay.

    Cons

Most of the managers in customer service don't know how to manage properly, are too strict, and don't give you the proper tools to perform the daily job functions. Metrics are the main concern for them and anything outside of the scope of the optimal metric is counted against you.

    Advice to Management

Customer service is the front line for your company. Treat them with the respect they deserve, pay them what they deserve, and provide the tools necessary for them to overcome every day obstacles.

I have been working at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

not much I can think of but a great benefits package

    Cons

Directors are horrible, they don't trust their managers! If you voice your concerns directors say you are whining. Directors and AVPs don't show enough support to other offices! How can you effectively run a office by coming into town once a month! Not enough job opportunities in the Atlanta office! The Omaha office thinks they are the center of excellence! The turn over is extremely high and the Atlanta off will be loosing more employees due to the work load! The organization preaches work life balance but that's not true! Brokers, sales reps, and account managers are rude and sometimes use bad language to managers. This company is so unorganized, no one knows who to go to for help!

    Advice to Management

trust your managers, come up with a recognition program! Open up more job opportunities in the Atlanta office! Stop making your employees feel like they are stupid and invest in your people! I don't see how this company can be a fortune anything company

    Pros

This job is a great way to learn how to survive. You are on your own and if you make it here you can make it anywhere!!!

    Cons

They will tell you this job has unlimited pay potential and the average Retirement Consultant makes 90k a year. FYI out of 80 only about 2 made that much, so odds are it won't be you!!!! You will be lucky to make half that much, so be ready to apply for government assistance. You will be asked to sell people things they don't need, so again, you can't say you didn't know before hand.

    Advice to Management

How you lie to prospective employees is amazing, as the business changes your Retirement Consultants will be exposed for what they are annuity salesmen and nothing else.

I worked at Lincoln Financial Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's nice to be inside when it's windy out.

    Cons

The laundry list is something beyond reproach and repair. Am I a jaded employee, well yes after everything that happened it's really hard not to be.

It is literally too top heavy. There are about 4-5 employees per manager. They then wonder why there is so much overtime.

Have you ever worked for a company where your manager literally peers from the cubicle wall at you for over an hour to see if you are working? Welcome to Lincoln.

No worries that manager was fired for having sex with his employee in the conference room.

Upward mobility? Only if you hang out with the managers after work. In fact that is the advise you are given when you ask how to move up; right after you are told work doesn't matter here.

Have different beliefs from management? It's ok. They'll make sure they get rid of you or make your life miserable.

Family pictures? Only if you are a Quaker. If anyone thinks you are showing too much elbow in your wedding picture. They'll make you get rid of it.

Want to move departments? Make sure your manager doesn't know so they won't try to block you.

What makes management material? Pull out a knife on an employee at a function and threaten one of your employees and boom! Manager in a few weeks! Or... just don't show up for months at a time. Boom. Manager!

Tell HR? They will literally say it's your own fault.

One more thing. If like knowing when you are going home this is not the job for you. You never know when you are going home because they announce mandatory overtime past your leave time. So you can't leave until someone tells you to.

Have you ever sat on your desk working overtime because another area is so it wouldn't be fair for you to go home and they can't? Welcome to Lincoln!

If you have no other recourse or know a manager then feel free to work there. Otherwise start applying for jobs as soon as you get in.

Use it as a tick on your resume really a lot of the experience won't be worth the time unless you lie to future employers about what it really was.

    Advice to Management

    Don't bother.

    Pros

    They provide a few benefits.

    Cons

Completely disorganized in quite a few areas considering this company has been around so long. I would not even be a customer.

    Advice to Management

Train your managers. Know what is really going on in your company. People are working 13 hrs a day no breaks and you either don't know or don't care.

    Pros

The 401k and insurance. Nothing else was worth the time I put into that company. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

    Cons

Everything about that place is a con, starting with their management. I've never worked in a place that cared so little for their employees unless they were gay. I think they are afraid of them.

    Advice to Management

What good would it do? They do it their way and forget about the true workers.
