I worked at Lindblad Expeditions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Unbelievable experiences, challenging work, fun co-workers. The opportunity to develop life-long friendships with great co-workers while shipboard is the single greatest attribute of working for this company. It creates a self-sustaining energy level and excitement for your job.

    Cons

If working shipboard plan to work long hours you will be faced with all the challenges of working in a confined area with a small staff team for long durations.

I worked at Lindblad Expeditions (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Travel for work. One month off at a time. Great benefits.

    Cons

Working two months without a day off. Missing holidays and other events.
Not the right job for everyone.

I have been working at Lindblad Expeditions full-time

    Pros

Talented, passionate, like-minded colleagues. Casual yet structured personalized contribution based office environment.

    Cons

Leadership has become short sighted and disconnected from the management level and support teams due to an aggressive growth plan; based on satisfying demands of a newly public company which is lacking structure to support such a plan.

    Advice to Management

STOP looking outside for solutions. Empower the Expert teams that already exist internally - most with 20+ years of experience - by asking the right questions and then providing carte blanche resources they ask for. While paving the way for those existing experts of your brand to thrive, grow, and flourish.

I worked at Lindblad Expeditions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked for this company for seven years. It really changed my life. I'm very glad for the time I got to spend plying the seas with these folks.

    Cons

You really have to be married to the sea for this job. The work is very very hard and the pay could be better. The breaks between rotations should also be a little longer.

    Advice to Management

Rotational positions should probably be six weeks on and six weeks off. This would help reduce incidents of the absolute burn-out which can plague the permanent crew and make life quite difficult for the contract employees.

I have been working at Lindblad Expeditions full-time

    Pros

Great office environment, interesting people and an ever-changing workload.

    Cons

Travel opportunities are excellent when allocated. Salary low compared to other similar companies and an unclear growth path.

    Advice to Management

Your employees will be much better at selling your products if they actually have the opportunity to experience it themselves!

I worked at Lindblad Expeditions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The product is generally amazing, and the guests show it. The best part of working at either of the HQ's (Seattle or New York) is when you get to visit the vessels and see the operations in action. Unfortunately for many of the office employees, those visits are few and far between.

Lindblad has a generally progressive attitude, although many of the people behind that culture are no longer with the company.

Both office locations are amazing, however I would expect that to change as a move is probably in the near future.

    Vacation benefits are fairly good.

    Cons

Work/life balance is not terrific- office hours aren't too bad, but cruise lines are truly 24/7/365 operations. Shipboard work can be very long hours (shipyard, etc).

Pay tends to be poor, and performance based raises/advancement opportunity is nowhere to be seen. Recognition is sparse at best.

Health benefits are only fair to middling (and that's being generous).

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to take responsibility, and connect with employees. Middle management needs some turnover, or dramatically improve performance.

I have been working at Lindblad Expeditions full-time

    Pros

Lindblad produces an A+++ product. It is very easy to take pride in the customer experience.

If you can take advantage of the travel benefits, they are very good.

    Cons

There are persistent communication problems throughout the company that just don't seem to getting better.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking your extremely dedicated workforce for granted. Many employees are 'lifers', and that is rare these days.

I worked at Lindblad Expeditions full-time

    Pros

Travel benefits, health care, 401k. Also, get to experience what the guests experience on your time off. Whales, monkeys, bears, etc..

    Cons

Gone for 8 months of the year. Work every day, 12 hour days while on the ship.
