    Pros

Exceptional talent. Good networking. A lot of collaboration by way of walking around and chatting about circuits, techniques etc. Not a lot of micromanaging. Fairly efficiently run company. Excellent compensation, especially in the form of bonuses.

    Cons

Sometimes frugality made the job challenging. Linear used to have a lack of desire in wanting to spend the extra buck on software packages or equipment. They have improved on this over the years. This frugality also led to innovation (a pro) where engineers had to be clever to circumvent whatever shortcomings they had.

    Advice to Management

In general, the management is well run. It was nice that most of the management team was once on the engineering side.

    Pros

Great place to learn integrated circuit design from one of the most experienced companies in the field. Very little bureaucracy to contend with.

    Cons

Prone to industry ups and downs.

    Advice to Management

To expand product scope to new markets that may be a bit outside core competencies and look at designing higher level products that can go direct to consumers in addition to b2b products.

I have been working at Linear Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company is very conservatively run with predictable and stable performance even in tough economic times as these. Highly intelligent, capable, and experienced R&D/factory engineers interface with industry-best global field sales teams. Business units and shallow internal hierarchy fosters easier inter- and intradepartmental cooperation.

    Cons

Base compensation is sub-par, sometimes leading to lowered morale & motivation. Benefits and amenities are seen as mediocre, with the occasional accusation of the company being "cheap" at the expense of comfort and even functionality.

I have been working at Linear Technology full-time

    Pros

This is a great place to work. The focus is on making the best product and offering the best support. Financially, profit sharing twice a year and sabbaticals every five years help to make this a great place to work.

    Cons

Since this is a great place to work and it seems that few people leave, at times it may be difficult to move up.

    Advice to Management

    Don't retire.

I have been working at Linear Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Experienced colleagues, profit sharing, partial reimbursement for education, well-managed 401k.

    Cons

No complaints. The company is well-managed and the people are good. There have been layoffs in the past, but the work force is stronger today because of that.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at Linear Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Love it. Designers are very smart and good to work for. No politics, no games, no bulls***. Management focuses on high value, long life, high performance parts and has a long view. What a refreshing change from other short-sighted tech companies! Yes, there have been shutdowns but it sure beats getting laid off or working insane hours like most other companies handle downturns. A very broad based product line is also a pleasure to work with, it means there is no such thing as one big stumble that kills the company. I've learned a lot here and never want to leave.

    Cons

None. This is as good as it gets.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up guys, I want to retire from LTC.

I worked at Linear Technology (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Culture may seem rough but I can say that the upper management does care about its employees....that's why they contribute a generous amount to 401(k) during profit sharing. The people there are like family and are very seasoned in what they do. Many of them are very helpful both at work and outside.

    Cons

None really. Promotions can be far and few between because no one leaves a stable great company.....not Linear's fault. Equipment and tools are a bit dated and not the most effecient to use at times. Some dead wood folks linger from time to time that are non team oriented or outright lazy.

    Pros

Excellent benefits. Profit sharing , 6 week sabbatical after 5 years. Great upper management staff.
Good people to work with. Those folks that leave usually regret it. Iv'e seen several work their way back in after leaving.

    Cons

Takes several years to adjust to the 1970's culture.
