Excellent benefits. Profit sharing , 6 week sabbatical after 5 years. Great upper management staff.
Good people to work with. Those folks that leave usually regret it. Iv'e seen several work their way back in after leaving.

    Cons

Takes several years to adjust to the 1970's culture.

I have been working at Linear Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Profit sharing every 6 months in which you can expect to get between $2000 and $3000 cashed out to you after taxes and a , if you make more than $16/hour. The insurance benefits are excellent. Many strides have been taken to organize using 5S, Kaizan and other Japanese-based systems.

    Cons

Severe micro management, creating very little teamwork and a staff that requires that they be told ever little thing.
Very little opportunity, people are mostly hired externally and the only people that are promoted from within are people who know how to "flatter".
Poor behavior goes unaddressed, so the work environment can be hostile and unproductive.
Getting vacation time can be very stressful, as it is limited and everybody wants summer months.
Poor training system and out-dated documentation straight out of the 80's

    Advice to Management

There are many talented people on the production floor, whose talents are being squandered by leaving them in the fab. Please consider evaluating what you have on hand before looking externally, as this would help with the extremely low morale. Look for small ways to show your employees their hard work is appreciated. The little things really do matter and they can go a long way towards improving peoples attitudes and their morale. Provide training to your supervisors, so they might deal with the many personnel issues that exist. Give the supervisors meaningful projects, so they don't feel compelled to micro-manage and knit-pick their employees. Create a training department, as many of the companies issues could be resolved through a cross-functional relationship between Production-Engineer and a Training department.

I worked at Linear Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice stock options, Good profit sharing ( ~28% of the salary).

    Cons

Old equipment. Chinese boss in test group hired mostly Chinese and eliminated non-Chinese.

    Advice to Management

Please take a close look at the high turn-over ratio groups to find out why people left the company.

I have been working at Linear Technology (More than a year)

    Pros

No laptop is given to employees, so after the office hours, you are not expected to work or respond to emails. can have good balance between work and personal life.

    Cons

They stress so much on the profit share, but there is no 401K match. If you can stay there for long time over 5 years, then you can enjoy sabbatical, and full profit share after one year.
Managers are micromanaging the team. You don't have much decision making power with your role. employees are not encouraged to bring new idea, but just do Linear way.
No break room with refrigerator or microwave where you can put your food. Most employees have their own mini refrigerator in their cube, sharing it with the others. no filtered water and people bring their own water because they do not want to drink the water in Milpitas.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees. Profit share is good and but in the deep down when you compare it to other companies, is it really better? Company no one leaves, but not everyone is encouraged to bring a new idea either.

I have been working at Linear Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Profit sharing is usually about 27% of your base pay, restricted stock grants are usually awarded on hire and every 2 years thereafter, 6 week sabbatical is earned every 5 years

    Cons

Occasionally requires travel to Milpitas, CA to release a new project, which is fine if you like that kind of thing. Workplace is small, so there's not a lot of people to befriend
