I worked at Liz Claiborne full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

They liked to promote from within, women had the same chances as men for promotion. If you worked hard, you didn't need to ask for a raise or promotion.

    Cons

During the last years there, Senior management was poor and was forced to sell off divisions and eliminate entire departments.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should have been replaced many years ago but the CEO was kept on too long leading to the ultimate deterioration of a once great company.

    Pros

great people, benefits, opportunities and just plain fun to go to work - at least at the time!

    Cons

politics, HR BS, narrow vision within the company...but they did provide excellent international job growth opportunities...

    Advice to Management

what made you think outsourcing would be, in the longterm, a cost savings? you ended up, for all intents and purposes, re-instituting DBA 'services' back in-house...thanks! HR (at least at that time) couldn't be trusted...one (or more) generalists left because they refused to be a part of the BS...and as with a lot of private sector companies - you played shell games with employees' job/job ...futures...AND got away with it

    Pros

Lots of perks. Sample sales, summer hours, 21 vacation days

    Cons

Upper management is horrible at communicating when big changes take place. Employees find out most of the changes through press releases on the internet. They keep selling all the brands. I would be surprised if they are still in business in a year.

    Pros

Good vacation package and summer hours
    Casual dress code
    Friendly people
    Work load was OK

    Cons

    Senior management have their favorites
    Not career advancement

    Advice to Management

The Senior management should trust the managers under them. The senior management have their hand tied and it looks like the middle management has no power.

    Pros

workforce is vibrant and fashionable. Dress code is casual and sample sales are excellent. Many talented people culture is not overly cut throat many people are willing to share knowledge and help you grow. Having a gym and cafeteria on site is great. Very family friendly, no one looks down on you for having a family and they allow you time to be with them. Vacation package is very generous.

    Cons

There are a lot of inviduals in c level management that are complete idiots, shame really. CEO seems to be at loss for how to turn company around and just keeps shedding brands. Divisional associates that do not work for upper managements "pet" brands get little to no company wide recognition. Juicy, lucky, kate ENOUGH! There are other brands in the portfolio recognize them. Also constant layoffs have left many people on edge and overworked.

    Advice to Management

Company should implement peer based review process so associates can get recognition for accomplishments that management may not always be aware of. Also if subordinates were allowed to review their superiors it would help them identify faults within their own management styles and also weed out some of these management duds that have the gift of gab and not much else.

    Pros

    Cons

No collaboration among departments; Constant pressure to cut costs; Benefits package

    Advice to Management

Take time to listen to employees rather than seeking advice from outside consultants
