I worked at Loblaw (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people, great place to gain skills

    Cons

large company with many employees makes it hard to climb up the corporate ladder. Lots of unpaid over time!

    Advice to Management

Better succession planning for employees with constant updates will lead to better employee retention. Many good employees leave due to lack of clear career path and mismanagement.

    Pros

    Benefits colleague discount
    Good colleauges
    Health coverage

    Cons

    Management is a joke!
No job satisfaction. High pressure of work all the time. Poor managers no management skills at all. Unpredictable changing working hours. Low salary. No growth. Union deduction from salary weekly but not much help from them.

    Advice to Management

Better avoid working if you have other option.

I have been working at Loblaw part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Almost all employees are friendly
    - 10% discount card after working 6 months
    - Other benefits such as dental, pension etc.

    Cons

You don't get your discount until working 6 months
    "Benefits" don't benefit students!
If you're under 18 you don't get benefits, and they still take so many fees from your pay! I get $20-30 taken each paycheck for "union dues" from which I don't benefit from.. that's 2-3 hours of pay :(
Demanding availability. hard for students to have a balance

    Advice to Management

Need to ease up on students, it's hard for us to balance work and school, especially if you pressure us into staying longer

    Pros

Work there 2 years answer more you start getting medical and
    Dental

    Cons

Pay raise based on hours worked, where you have to work more and more to get the next raise. And the raise is only in 5 cent increments. You'll never get more than 5 cent raise because it is unionized.

    Advice to Management

Reward your part timers. You can't do it without us.

I have been working at Loblaw full-time

    Pros

    vacation
    work life balance
people who try to be "blue"

    Cons

    management
    HR
lack of progression for people in career
    mostly contractors
    bi-annual lay offs

    Advice to Management

i think a lot of the middle management needs to be replaced with individuals who can manage to put their team first to help achieve company objectives
how about having a HR organization that actually listens to its employees rather than trying to impress the VPs who are only out for themselves
