I worked at Localytics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    · Strong culture and values. A lot of company decisions are driven by desire to do good by their employees and their customers. There were multiple times when I witnessed how the company could have done "the wrong thing" and easily get away with it, yet they chose to do "the right thing" only because it was the right thing to do. A rare level of integrity! · Their customers are household names. For those in... customer facing roles experience gained in Localytics would be much more valuable than experience at some other companies that market to mom-and-pop shops. · Big, hairy challenges on the engineering side. Very few companies in town operate on a comparable scale. And most of those other companies are giant corps where one's impact is limited to a tiny part of the system. · One of the reviewers mentioned this in the Cons column, but I see this as a Pro. Very picky when it comes to hiring. I was involved in hiring for the Product, Engineering, and Design departments and at least in those departments a lot of good candidates were rejected. One had to be a truly great candidate to be offered a job at Localytics. As a result the caliber of the team was unmatched. (But to be completely honest I felt that some other departments had much lower bar) · One of the coolest offices in town. Great location in Government Center, steps from every T line.

    Cons

    · Not sure if this belongs in the Cons column but it's not a Pro either. The comp package is not great. The base salary is average. But there's no performance bonus, and the equity is stock options in a late stage private company. Benefits package is also average at best. · Total lack of transparency. Sometimes it reaches comical levels. For example, there was a VP departure where at some point said VP cleared... their desk and stopped showing up at work and yet there was not a single word from the Exec team. Of course, news travel through the grapevine, often distorted and uncontrollable. · The Exec team doesn't trust themselves and their employees to make the right decisions. As a result no decision are being made when needed. Great ideas were conceived and prototyped by the product and engineering, never got buy-in from the execs, and wound up abandoned. There is maybe a couple of people on the exec team who think strategically and develop vision but apparently they are not getting much support.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have an advice to management. In my opinion the new CEO is leading the company in the right direction and should stay the course. But it's been two years and results haven't materialized yet so perhaps some course correction should be considered.

I have been working at Localytics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-The opportunity is yours for the taking here. Come in, work hard and prove yourself and the sky's the limit -Minimal red tape. Localytics is extremely agile and if you have a good idea you can pitch it and run with it -Autonomy to do your work. You feel empowered to make decisions and test out new things. There are very few micro-managers (at least on my team) -No startup is perfect at this, but the exec team... tries to be really transparent -Flexible and excellent work/life balance. As long as you get your work done and continue to perform at a high level Localytics is really laid back about WFH and vacation time (there's unlimited vacation which is cool) -The people make Localytics what it is. They're incredibly smart and talented but also fun. Just great people in general who like to work hard/play hard -We've been know to throw a good party (or 10)

    Cons

-It's a startup. You're along for the ride. If you can't handle that it can be a bumpy one at times, I'd advise you not to work at any startup. -Some teams have some managerial issues to work out

    Advice to Management

Keep the culture the way it is today where everyone can be open, honest, and have a little fun. It's what makes Localytics a great place to work. Make sure teams feel empowered to run with new ideas or challenge the status quo. Occasionally, it seems like we do things based on a hunch and not data. Also - Sift out the few bad managers who are causing employee churn.

I have been working at Localytics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-AWESOME team, everyone is hard working, extremely talented, and most importantly easy to get along with. Working at Localytics has helped me built an awesome network and coming to work feels like seeing great friends every day. Everyone is encouraged to be their true self, which can be hard to find in the work place! -Great learning opportunity. I have learned more in the past two years than I learned in the prior... six years of my career combined. Localytics has given me the opportunity to learn both technical and business skills that have proven invaluable for my career -Localytics is constantly working at its culture, and if you care enough, any employee can help drive that culture -The exec team values the contribution of all employees and with that comes a high expectation for what employees deliver - this is a great opportunity to make an impact, which has also proven invaluable for my career growth -Autonomy in your work! Great opportunity to take leadership in your team

    Cons

The company has had to learn how to be lean in light of difficult times (like all other companies in 2016), so one needs to be creative in their solutions when approaching a project/task/initiative

    Advice to Management

-The people are what makes Localytics so great, any investment in the team is a good investment -Continue to drive a positive culture, it makes Localytics unforgettable, and makes hard work a lot easier! -Lastly, continue to be transparent in the company's direction, so the team can continue to work in sync

I have been working at Localytics

    Pros

    - Unlimited career and personal growth. I was promoted in my first year. - Amazing people. There are so many brilliant individuals to learn from. - Company culture is top notch. Sales, Engineering, Support, Marketing, and Product all get along very well. - Very challenging and rewarding work - Great product with the best client base - Exciting space - Exec team is full of thought leaders

    Cons

    - It's a startup, it has its ups and downs - Not really a con, but you must be able to handle constant change

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent. As this is a startup, change is constant and employees need to be aware of upcoming changes. Don't lose the incredible culture you have created.

    I worked at Localytics full-time

    Pros

Working in the big data/mobile space is probably good resume fodder and skills you earn at Localytics are fairly transferrable.

    Cons

    - I can prove that recent positive reviews here are faked by management to prop up Glassdoor scores. That should give you a fairly decent overview of the ethical standards of the exec team. - Executive hubris was the downfall of Localytics. Downplaying competitive threats, overstatement of their own abilities/decision making, overconfidence in competitive strategy, overly aggressive growth with no backing, etc.... Getting lucky in terms of market and timing early on does not equate to your business acumen. - Micromanagement to the EXTREME. This is due to classic insecurity on the part of the management team. - Didn't think it was possible to be cheap/stingy in terms of pay/benefits and also blow the company's cash position at the same time, but somehow they found a way. - Sexism. I'm male but still felt awkward at the level of sexism displayed at times. Hired a female VP of HR just to respond to complaints about no female execs and she quit after 4 months. All females around the CEO have quit with no job lined up if that gives you a sense of how things operate. - CEO. Literally every person in every department openly discusses how awful the CEO is in every aspect of leadership. Several coups have been attempted but unfortunately failed. How is this tolerated?!

    Advice to Management

Step down. That is, unless you get removed after missing this quarter's revenue goal. You have good people working for you supporting families and you're doing them a huge disservice with your immaturity, inexperience, and ineptitude. You had the greatest opportunity in the world. It was yours to lose and you lost it.

    Pros

    - Great Product - Former Great VP of Sales (WP) - Former Great co-founder (BS) - Hot space

    Cons

    - CEO is a nightmare, he over hires and doesn't trust anyone to make a decision. Had an amazing exec team when the company was young including (WP and BS - for those that know them). He is great at getting rid of good people. - Board has no balls, CEO should have been replaced in 2013 - CEO not willing to sell the company. He thinks he has a unicorn and it's worth a billion dollars (not kidding). Awesome news... for shareholders...
