I worked at Lockheed Martin as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is a large contractor for the government so there is a lot to choose from in regards to career field.

    Cons

Upper management is slow to respond to issues. Have to kiss up a lot. No raises or promotions unless you know someone.

    Advice to Management

Consider entry level employees that want to progress within the company.

I worked at Lockheed Martin as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Autonomy
    - Fairly important tasks for intern work
    - Good co-workers

    Cons

    - Work environment very dull (partially because this was a generic building which cycles through space contracts every few years)
    - Lack of intern programming. I was essentially just an entry employee who left after 3 months. This may also have been because of the particular contract and location

    Advice to Management

Have more intern programs! Make those cube farms less dull!

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of interesting technology leadership and development opportunities

    Cons

Pay and benefits are adequate, but compensation increases and bonuses are discretionary and tend to favor those with lengthy tenure and personal relationships. Only company I've worked for with no universal performance-based variable comp plan below director level.

    Advice to Management

Surprisingly little incentive to stay on board long-term and develop professionally, especially for a company this large and successful.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Big company with a good ability to keep government contracts going = fairly stable.
Lots of room to move around and grow.
    Decent benefits.
Upper management seems very capable and proactive.
    Good ethics in the workplace.

    Cons

Lockheed's IS&GS business unit is government services contracts only. That means the profit margin is tight and they nickle and dime their employees to make profit expectations.

    Advice to Management

LM as a whole is doing well, but make sure you stay loyal to your employees.

The managers are not always very comprehensive in terms of finding optimal solutions. Lots of politics involved unfortunately but it is still a great company.

    Cons

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Back in the Cold War days, we made *lots* of influencing products - Often very innovative, highly integrated, and effective...

    Cons

At some point along the way, processes & profits became "more" important than the product - Not bad if your a shareholder but the product cutting edge

    Advice to Management

We used to put the products first and the processes and profits would fall into place - When you put profits and processes ahead of products, the products become mundane... Mundane products isn't what Lockheed was about....
