    Pros

Competitive High Starting Salary. Great Leadership Development Programs.

    Cons

Risk Averse. Lack of rewards for hard work. Promotion tends to be based on years of service rather than performance.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for career, relocation, etc. The smaller Business Units are much leaner and provide more opportunities because it is an "all hands on deck" type of organization.

    Cons

Depending on the Business Unit, there are "legacy" leadership who don't necessarily follow the Full Spectrum Leadership Imperatives that are required for everyone. That is frustrating but the best thing to do is to find your passion in LM and a program you love then dig in and keep the company great.

    Advice to Management

Hold your leaders accountable for their actions and performance with the good and the bad. Let go of the legacy "buddy system" because it is noticeable to the Gen X and while we do believe experience is valuable, being overlooked for strategic items but use our energy to accomplish the bottom line makes us look outside the company.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lockheed was a great company to work for my first 14 years with them. A lot of growth opportunity and great leadership. I enjoyed the type of work I did and was able to excel. I felt I was treated well until my last year with them.

    Cons

I went out on disability and got screwed. I paid into long term disability for 15 years but when it was time to use it Cigna turned down my long term disability claim. The federal government approved it and yet Cigna turned it down. I have been completely and totally disabled since March, 2010 and Lockheed should have had to pay me 65% of my pay for all these years and they got away without paying me a dime. I should have found a lawyer to take my case because I won the right to sue them when I appealed their decision with the labor board.

    Advice to Management

Keep your eye on Middle Management. They talk to employees about other employees.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Company with flexibility to move around if you have a good manager

    Cons

I transitioned to a position I could not escape from. The work was fabulous, but my manager was not.

My biggest mistake my own fault for not paying for external training. I was stuck to a program for seven years and could only get project management or system engineering training, but I am a software engineer and couldn't get any training approved.

I was laid off when we lost the contract to GD without any current skills since the my program was ~ 20 years behind the state of the art.

    Advice to Management

Rotate your peeps, even the old ones.
