I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

good vacation, my first line manager was great

    Cons

Our VP drove down contracts and had losses yet she got outlandish bonuses! For the largest defense contractor they don't do a good job or retraining or redeploying employees when a contract ends

    Advice to Management

Get your HR people to do their job when employees are facing layoffs

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pension.... though I understand no longer for new hires. Opportunity to work from home. Supporting external customers can be more advantageous than supporting internal LM customers; LM employees could fair better operating under external customer processes. Wide spectrum of products and services offers many opportunities.

    Cons

Limited/no support from managers. Annual review process can have little value. Managers can discover no roadmap for success. To be fair, LM is a huge company with many sites and cultures; pick wisely.

    Advice to Management

Front line managers are in a tight spot; often having too many direct reports to manage. I worked for three business units within LM, all so different that any advice would be too selective.

    Cons

Communication is very slow and beurocratic

    Advice to Management

Company needs to move faster and efficient.

I worked at Lockheed Martin as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The compensation was fair, and they offered the scale of support that you'd expect from a large company such as 24-hour technical support.

    Cons

Tendency toward bureaucracy in terms of tying employees up with never-ending self evaluations and critiques, taking away from time doing the actual work that members were originally hired for. Also, no free lunch here, 'strictly business.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule (9/80), some opportunities for growth - especially if you are open to relocation, generally highly ethical environment. Good amenities if you are at HQ locations...concierge, gym, car detailing. Great name recognition.

    Cons

Bureaucratic, outdated technology-philosophies-methodologies. Not diversity friendly...but think they are - which makes it even more problematic. Mediocre benefits and not so competitive pay...not worth the mental aggravation. So political.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking you know everything....particularly if your 20 year career has been in the same archaic company. It is a great company in many ways, but you have no sincere regard for your talent...only those in the inner circles. It is all superficial. Diversity is more than plastering your name on billboards at diversity conferences. Hold leaders accountable...you don't even assess leadership effectiveness as part of the perf management process and wonder why employees are unhappy.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

9/80 Work schedule (every other Friday off), flexible hours. There is some technically challenging work to be had, but there is also competition to get those assignments.

    Cons

Vast amount of monotonous design-entry work keeps many younger engineers underutilized. Limited path for advancement unless you leave engineering and become some sort of manager (either line manager or project / program manager).

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities for technical people to advance while staying technical.

    Pros

Benefits, 401k, Good entry-level position to learn from.

    Cons

Pay, Pay, Pay, Low raises every year. Very low incentive to stay. People are nice, but management sets unrealistic goals. Hard to move up without leaving then coming back.
