    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, great opportunities to do exciting and fun work. Ethics really IS important and not just noise from above. Leaders, for the most part, are high quality.

    Cons

Management forced to hold on to dead weight underperformers to keep HR happy and do so at the detriment of the competant, valued workers. More overhead money is spent on a select few than on the training people need to do their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the people who do the actual work and pay them accordingly. Keep HR on a leash so that people CAN be fired for being lazy and useless so we high and exceptional performers are not forced to carry them along.

    Pros

Great career opportunities and great upper management. Benefits package is better than most competitors. The management is very hesitant to let anyone go. Layoffs are extremely rare. Even with the stock market crashing, Lockheed Martin stock is doing great and my 401k is still looking good. The management here is worthy of trust and make every effort to be as fair as possible. Company offers ability and flexiblity to work from home which helps a great deal in work/life balance situations. Thanks.

    Cons

Cost of living in the Rockville, MD area is quite high. Other than that the company and it's management are great.

    Advice to Management

Great job, the company has great leaders that can be trusted. Thanks

    Pros

Lots of opportunities, several different business units to work for, several leadership programs for entry level and mid-career level employees. OK benefits except for the new health care plan they're forcing everyone to adopt.

    Cons

Large corporate beauracracy can't be avoided in a company this size, but a lot of the process of getting through to senior management is different between business units.

    Advice to Management

More transparency, less focus on minimum level of experience requirements for job levels and more on past performance as an indicator of an employee's ability to perform at a particular level. Also need more recognition of IS&GS, which is becoming the largest business unit but seems to never be highlighted in corporate propaganda.

    Pros

They really have created and propogated a great approach to management, where the managers are held responsible for maintaining a good work environment rather than a territorial "ownership" of the employees. And the work is challenging and interesting, moreso than other places that I've worked. A great place to work if you really want to do things. Compensation seems not only competitive but at the high end, from what I've seen. I'm sure that there are pockets in such a large organization where some of this doesn't hold, but I've been around (18 years experience at 9 different prime contractor sites) and I am very impressed with how ethical and how well-run Lockheed Martin is in general. Also their commitment to work-life balance - flexibility in work hours - is as real as it gets, and makes a big difference to me personally.

    Cons

The TS&S work and location are a bit removed from the rest of the company. I hate to sound like a shill, but I really can't think of much negative to say about Lockheed Martin itself as opposed to negative aspects of particular jobs that don''t distinguish LM from other employers. Perhaps it is true that some of the workspaces - the buildings themselves and the work areas - seem cold and impersonal. At some places window offices are rare and most employees aren't near sunlight. If you're into your work that's not so much an issue, if not I guess it's a drag sometimes.

    Advice to Management

The company at large really has its act together I think.

    Pros

New technologies, challenging work, good grow opportunity (LM is spending a lot of time and money in developing new hires). Management is usually very down-to-earth and are on top of of projects, and the engineers are top of the line. It is also a very ethical company.

    Cons

A lot of work... Like in other companies, you get good managers and bad ones.

    Advice to Management

Give higher raises, make sure you remove the bad managers. They are driving away the employees.

    Pros

    - Job Security
     - Great Benefits - (contributed to 2 master's degrees, many employee discounts, healthcare, savings plans, etc)
     - Opportunity to gain experience across multiple domains due to large number of programs to work on in DC area
     - Great ethics program
     - Hard work is typically rewarded
     - Work is not monotonous, always something different
     - Great mentoring program - I've had some great bosses
     - Intense programs available for people with large amounts of energy
     - Great work/home balance (flex time, work from home, etc)
     - If you communicate with your boss what you're looking for many will help you find a path to get there
     - Great training programs to take advantage of

    Cons

    - Younger employees will not see as steep an escalation in pay/responsibility as they would see at a smaller company, however, if you move between different programs and work proposals and gain a great deal of experience you will be rewarded.
     - You have to move between programs, job titles, etc in order to gain a significant pay increase - if you start low and stay on the same program it will take longer to get to where your pay rate should be than if you move between programs and volunteer for highly visible assignments.
     - Don't fall for the security clearance upgrade push! You could lose all of your clearances if the upgrade does not occur. I've seen this happen to others and it is devastating for a career in government. To add insult to injury, the pay isn't always better with a high clearance.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! We're the #1 defense contractor in the world!

    Pros

Working in certain areas of Lockheed gives you a mission to accomplish - a mission where you feel vital to the support of the country. Also, they have a great tuition assistance program.

    Cons

Can't talk about my job. :) But on a serious note, I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

A lot of flexibility in work schedules; for the most part, employees tend to be good, all-around, solid, decent people; compensation is at least competitive; I believe in the work they do

    Cons

There are some companies that may pay better; dealing with some of the bureaucracy of a huge company (it could be must worse and you are bound to get some of this in any large company -but it is a downer); company tends to be a little more formal - it's understandable why, but it takes a little of the fun out of it; monetary bonuses seem few and far between

    Advice to Management

Need to find a way for employees to have a good work/life balance and still be able to advance in the company
