Culture at Lockton really is different. They have treated me better in the past 10 years than I ever could have imagined.

    Cons

Cons are simply that they grow fast and you are expected to perform!

I have been working at Lockton Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Lockton culture is a learning culture. The competitiveness that they invite by encouraging a culture of ideas and learning is a real positive one. The camaraderie and comfort I have had with my co workers and the ability to know I can use them for a knowledgeable answer that I may not have shows also a great team work environment.

    Cons

The pay is pretty bad, based on my market value and what people with my job title get paid. I am between 14 to 22% underpaid.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming it only on a generational gap and come to the realization how much things have changed in 20 years.

I worked at Lockton Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful coverage training program if you have the time to make it all the way through.

    Cons

Long hours demanded, pay is far under market value

    Advice to Management

Parties and alcohol are not compensation. Pay your employees fairly. Just because someone is a subject matter expert does not make them a good manager. Hire more diversity instead of only attractive, tall, privileged white people.

  5. "Producer-Centric Growth Company"

I have been working at Lockton Companies full-time

    Pros

Entrepreneurer, de-centralized, flat organization that provides local market autonomy, fosters local market innovations and business readiness. Extremely client-focused. 401(k) match and immediate vesting.

    Cons

De-centralization also presents inconsistency and inefficiency. Limited associate development, very fast paced, sink or swim. Limited employee mobility across functions, the company and regions. Producer-centric organization and tie to top producers tends to yield a faster career progression. Expectations and demand on service staff are high. Delivering client commitments can sometimes be like a huge balancing act on a rollerball. Work-life balance can be a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Associates are company's asset for being in a professional service business. Pay more attention and take better care of them, across all EE segments; the young, as well as the more experienced. Consider other benefits in addition to base pay, 401(k) match.

    Pros

Competitive pay once you get through the entry level positions. Climbing the ladder is a tough trek but promotions are typically every 18-24 months

    Cons

Work life balance isn't very favorable once you climb the positional ladder. A lot of email monitoring outside of the normal work hours.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work

I have been working at Lockton Companies full-time

    Pros

Privately held company whose environment promotes autonomy and innovation. At an entry level position, my responsibilities far exceed those of my peers and I am continuously challenged everyday.

    Cons

Definitely a good sign that I am struggling to think of any! I would say a con may be the segregation between the P&C and benefits team - at least in my office. Another may be that if you do not like to have a full plate at all times - stay away! The team member count can sometimes feel low but as a consequence there is a lot of support between benefits peers - at all levels.

    Advice to Management

Do not let the concept of standardization get in the way of our company culture. There are processes that can be made more efficient by aligning various offices - such as standard RFPs - but it can also have an inefficient impact on potential of growth that is well deserved...be it growth in title, knowledge, or client work.

    Pros

Benefits are great. Perks are always a plus. They like to party, but mainly they do well at showing appreciation for employees.

    Cons

Not everyone gets to enjoy the perks because the client is always first. Somebody has to do the work while everyone else can play.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget those who supported your success. It takes a team to be successful in this business. Also, this is an industry based on relationships. The employees that create those relationships are an integral part of a positive outcome.
