I worked at Lockwood, Andrews, & Newnam full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, flexible hours, most weeks really are 40 hours, frequent office equipment upgrades, good variety of project diversity, 3% company match for 401k, management very approachable

    Cons

Unpredictable workload months in advance, no profit sharing/bonuses, slightly below average salaries vs. city avg, high turnover rate, insurance benefits are way below industry-average, a lot of work that could be shared internally gets sub-contracted to another firm

    Advice to Management

When one group is slow but another is busy, let other business groups help each other rather than having so much overhead

I worked at Lockwood, Andrews, & Newnam full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large, well-organized company. Good leadership overall. Not as political as a lot of companies.

    Cons

A bit of staffing up and reducing force as workload varies.

    Pros

Good people, opportunities for advancement and development. Interesting projects on a variety of fronts allow you to gain exposure to a large cross section of the industry.

    Cons

Many, many processes and forms and checklists involved in project execution. Company seems to be struggling with how to let people do their jobs. Management is not necessarily heavy handed just annoyingly present.

    Advice to Management

Back off and let your people do their jobs.

I have been working at Lockwood, Andrews, & Newnam (More than 8 years)

    Pros

great work atmosphere, high potential for advancement within the company, team leaders expect you to achieve your greatest potential and will offer the resources you need, if you request them.

    Cons

salary is not commensurate with other firms; relevant software training is lacking and/or disorganized; health insurance benefits are lacking

    Advice to Management

Thank you, upper management, for starting to listen to the employees needs

    Pros

The firm has opened 8 new offices in 8 years, even during the "great economic downturn". Also venturing into peripheral markets. For example, flood control has expanded to include stormwater quality. Continually hiring interns through senior engineers, the company has grown but you still have a NAME instead of a number.

    Cons

Health benefits costs have not gone up like the rest of the industry, but we could use a stronger 401K match.

    Pros

Great career growth opportunities. Small enough company that there is still fair amount of flexibility.

    Cons

Benefits are OK --- maybe not as good as some.

    Advice to Management

Need something to make the company standout to help retain good staff.
