    They have work to do

    Pros

There aren’t many that are noteworthy. The office is nice and the employees in general look out for each other.

    Cons

While employees seem to genuinely care for each other as the Corporate office is somewhat small, upper management does not express anything of the sense. They basically ignore you even in such a relatively small place. You can walk by the CEO or his family or the leaders of HR or the Trading floor and they basically ignore you as if it’s a huge office and you don’t see the same people all the time. Lately they are changing a lot and that’s not for the good for most people. It’s just not great culturally and employees are clearly there for a paycheck.

Decent place to work at but read on

    Pros

I really enjoyed my time working at Loews. I made lifelong friends and learned a lot from senior staff. Most of my time with Loews (IT Department) was positive, it was a great place to get your hands on different types of technologies and learn from lots of talented people (Note: many of the talented people are no longer with the company but very technically talented people remain). They moved away from in house development so if you are a developer, its not the right fit for you. This is a great place to gain lots of experience and then move on. -Above average medical benefits and other company benefits -Decent Work/life balance -great office location, next to central park.

    Cons

-The company started to change 3 years ago with its first layoff in over 20 years. In 2016, roughly 10% of the technology team was laid off. In 2018, an entire group under the accounting team was laid off. In 2019, 50% (mostly lifers) of the technology team was laid off. -staff scared of losing their jobs creating a sense of an unstable work environment which creates a toxic work environment -lack of promotion/upward mobility Note: other reviews mentioned nepotism and its accurate.

    Pros

There’s a lot of buzz around the office about how things are changing but as far as I can tell it’s all for the better. Rather than throw stones at the people going out on a limb to improve things like some have been doing, the smarter folks understand how business works and we need to change with the times. Nobody likes to see somebody lose a job but sometimes there are casualties when technology comes in. Hasn’t that been proven by now? Wake up people! I have had plenty of conversations with my friends at the office about how nice it is to finally see the company make some changes. Workday came into HR and caused some waves and now its being put into Finance so there will be more waves. In the end, the company will be better off with cool technology and we will be able to work on more interesting things without being bogged down with work that the systems will do for us. REALLY nice people (for the most part), new technology, good pay and interesting new projects are all positives.

    Cons

Naysayers and negative people. The problem here is that many of the negative people have some kind of pension plan so they aren’t going anywhere. They should get with the program or get out of the way. The office is small but you never see senior management. They don’t seem concerned with the average employee.

    Loews Corporation Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Since everyone responds to change differently, we do our best to offer clear reasons behind what and why we introduce things like new technology (Workday). We encourage you to help your team members see the value of these new tools to help in their adoption. Important work like this takes time so thanks for your support and patience in seeing it through. When it comes to community service, make sure to take advantage of the $5k in annual matching grant funds for your charitable contributions and explore opportunities to get involved in our CSR task force.

    Pros

Great company if you like to be micromanaged and hate flexibility or work-life balance.

    Cons

Abusive environment where co- workers are terrified to speak to one another or suggest much needed change.

Company not moving with the times, avoid the IT Department

    Pros

Fortune 500 company, compensation, and I would have put job tenure, but the IT department was gutted recently.

    Cons

Upper management cares little for its employees. Nepotism / seniority is high. Flat org structure (many people who deserve to move up, do not, because those positions are filled by less deserving people who have been at the company for a long time)

    Pros

Awesome CIO - the one person in upper management that cares about employees.

    Cons

Culture is about the company, not the employees.
