    Pros

Good benefits & work life balance. They have new upper management which seem to be making great changes to bring company into this century.

    Cons

Upper management Micromanages everything. They are unwilling to change regardless of what they say in your interview. The team members are unfriendly and it is ab abusive workplace environment. There is lack of communication and they frequently speak to subordinates in an unprofessional manor.

    Advice to Management

Send your management to classes to learn how to deal & speak to people.

    Pros

There is an incentive bonus, but it is very small and does not correlate to any metrics or to the 25% one that is listed on your personal benefits on the intranet.

Work life balance and team atmosphere before layoffs.

    Cons

Management did a poor job with resource allocation and now an even worse selection of the 8 IT people they let go as most are “worker bees”, experts in supporting and enhancing primary financial systems now it is left to less knowledgeable resources who will struggle just to maintain these systems and put out fires.

Loews has no performance or reward systems in place for the employee to prove they achieved or did not achieve goals so Management who oversees the systems has to use their own judgement of "who they like" to reward as most don't even log into the systems to even begin to understand their complexities.

Loews holding company is no longer a family atmosphere and it is now considered the same mentality as a Private Equity or Corporate America and loyalty does not matter after firing 8 IT people on Feb. 10, some who have worked there for years, having to leave immediately, escorted out like a criminal with 10 minutes to pack their stuff and not being able to say goodbye to anyone or anyone saying goodbye to them.

    Advice to Management

Offer voluntary packages out of respect for long time employees, work from home policy, review cost cutting decisions as they set an example to the remaining employees and drive the fate of employee retention as " What Goes Around Comes Around ..."

    Pros

The company has tried to introduce some less formal practices (even if the definition of business casual is when men remove their tie). Benefits are structure to reward long-time employees and can be generous at higher levels.

    Cons

While the HR ("marketing department") will tout the family atmosphere of this holding company it is evident (aka in cost cutting layoffs where long standing contributors have been walked out at a moment’s notice) that the company fails at allocating its human capital properly. In a company where the already disproportionate workload is managed by mid-level hard workers, quirky, stagnant, unqualified senior management presiding over their departments are allowed to continue their reign when they would not survive in a normal company. Who is looking out for the future of Loews? The parade of talent out of the Company continues while the mantra is “no one is irreplaceable”.

    Advice to Management

Step into the future Loews. Modernize your ideas, your infrastructure, your policies. Implement a true reward system based on objectives and promote high performers before all the talent leaves.
