I have been working at Logan Aluminum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent work environment

Logan truly puts an emphasis on safety as the top priority

Teams are organized with plenty of opportunities to work in cross functional settings with other teammates with different expertise

Lots of growth and expansion as well as retirement leads to plenty of opportunities for advancement

If you work hard, you will be given opportunities to advance your career and grow into other positions within the company

Lots of great training offered (both informal and formal)

Upper level management knows employees by name, which is impressive given the size of the plant

Logan puts an emphasis on continuous improvement in the types of projects pursued

Ideas from "the floor" are often implemented as improvements in both small and large scale projects

Employees are very friendly and helpful everywhere in the plant

    Cons

Sometimes things move slower than other companies because of the number of people/departments needed to finalize a decision

Location is a bit remote and requires living in a small town or a commute of at least 30 min

Joint ownership can result in conflicting priorities at times, but management generally does a good job of handling this for employees

I have been working at Logan Aluminum full-time

    Pros

Most companies tout the "team concept" ideal as being important, but rarely have I ever seen it actually work as efficiently as it does here. People truly care about each other and the business, and everyone works together to reach goals.

    Cons

Long commute. Russellville, KY has nothing to offer. The nearest city is Bowling Green, KY (45 minutes).
    Serious lack of diversity.

I worked at Logan Aluminum as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Large company with many opportunities for growth. It is a very friendly environment, with a lot of hard working people doing a great job in maintaining a motivating ambient for continuous improvement in performance.

    Cons

Location and commute, kind of far from a large city, and it can get very hot in the plant and in the region in general.

I have been working at Logan Aluminum as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company has a great atmosphere and everyone was very helpful and welcoming. It was great to meet a lot of people in senior management as an intern.

    Cons

The internship lacked structure. There was no set project. it was a little more of just working on extra stuff they had that needed to be done.

    Advice to Management

Prepare a structured internship program. Have a project(s), goals, learning and development opportunities, etc.

I have been working at Logan Aluminum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

-Should have plenty of opportunity for advancement in the next several years due to older workforce.
-Best pay in area for production work. $17.51-$25.42 an hour (7 years to top out).
    -Great Benefits.
    -Stability.
-Will pay tuition and books for college (limited amount per year)

    Cons

-Team concept isn't what it's hyped up to be.
-Promotions are hard to come by unless you are part of the good ole boy club.
-Swing shift is horrible. Should go to fixed shift system.
-Top-out takes way too long. Should go back to five years or less. If you haven't learned it in five years, you're not going to learn it in seven.
-Handles discipline with underperforming older employees poorly. This leaves a bad impression with the younger workforce.

    Advice to Management

The level of benefits are deteriorating rapidly. Need to control this before you become like every other plant, losing the ability to attract/retain quality employees.
