I worked at Logica full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

When done properly (which wasn't too often wen I was there) you have the opportunity to work on different projects during your tenure there.

    Cons

Very poor career development planning. Met several people who had been doing the same role for years and weren't able to move due to project commitment. HR very badly organised. When I joined several new starters and I were unassigned for up to 4 months. Whilst this was during the cgi takeover, it appeared to be part of the culture at logica.

I have been working at Logica full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Number of Holidays and the ability to work for a good client.

    Cons

No pay rises, poor bonus, very stagnant roles, management are very singularly focused on their own targets even when impacting the company negatively.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff better, ensure that people are rewarded for hard work and delivery.

    Pros

Great commercial and legal team. European architecture practices are fantastic.

    Cons

Staff are a line item on a project/proposal cost sheet, nothing else.
Inability to react to competition or manage risk
Margin of 15% or they do nothing. Even on hardware when competition was doing 2-3% margin.
Technical staff were not allowed training even to develop new business. I

I worked at Logica full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Most frontline Logica/CGI technical/delivery staff will say that it was your immediate colleagues and the camaraderie that made Logica once a great place to work. This often led to a level of motivation and commitment that drove too many of Logica’s successes. However this was sadly rarely rewarded by a self-serving top heavy layer of management.

    Cons

Don’t waste your time working here for too long if you have any technical ability: 1. You won’t be recognised or rewarded by their greedy bonus hungry 'blame cultured' project managers, who have often brown-nosed their way into said role because they weren’t capable enough to do real work; 2. There is a very ill thought out internal job market form of resource management, and most of the project work that CGI wins is quite poor, so you’ll often end up doing antiquated legacy work instead of what you were originally recruited for (i.e. Java/.Net etc.). 3. As in my case, I got fed up on my last project and left because I was forced to work away from home for long periods, worked hours that flaunted the European guidelines, and was refused overtime after originally being promised it (unfortunately not in writing by a very two-faced PM).

    Advice to Management

Reward your front-line staff, as most of your good experienced staff have left the sinking ship a long time ago to actually get salaries in line with what we're worth in the market. You now have a load of clueless fresh graduates that have no experienced people to mentor them, and who are actually an embarrassment to put in front of the client.

I have been working at Logica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Sallaries paid in time, good tools, nice properties. Pretty good spirit between empoyees. Some off time activities. Good food in cantine.

    Cons

From time to time management doesn't have a clue what is going on. They give false promises or just don't know why things go the way they do. They don't take responsibility for they actions either.

    Advice to Management

They really should consider who is right person to be a new manager. It's not automatically the most senior engineer.

I have been working at Logica full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some of the technical staff are very good people: both in their technical ability and in their day to day personal relations.

    Cons

Management with utter contempt for staff. A very unpleasant and nasty work culture. Lack of integrity. Terrible terms and conditions. No career progression. Christmas parties cancelled because of lack of money. Incredibly high turn over of staff.

    Advice to Management

    Consider other careers.

I have been working at Logica as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The working time is flexible and most of your colleagues are approachable.
You can meet interesting people and practice your ability to deal with big variety of characters, to practice your ability to argument and support your opinion with arguments.
The salary is better compared to what other companies can offer.

    Cons

Almost no one speaks proper English. You will be thrown into the projects without any training at all and immediate demanding to support them and fix bugs within them. You will be promised by the HRs that you would be working as a developer on a new features as well as fixing existent features. However, you will be allowed only to support the applications.
The applications are the worst ever written software in the world. You will be astonished by them as a technically educated person even if you would have just graduated from the University.
You will not be given the permission to re-factor, to optimize the performance, to rewrite badly performing units.
You will also not be given the opportunity to learn new technologies. The only permit you'll be given is to support the already "developed" application.
No installation work, No configuration work, No experimental work based on new technologies. You will work with out-of-date technologies with the argument that this has been working for 10 years now and need not any optimization and any farther modification at all.
You will be required to do a variety of tasks that have no relation to what you would have been hired for.
Any time you have troubles with your working station or whatever, you will be required to hang on the phone line with the Support Desk guys and begging for resolutions and waiting for resolution like granting write privilege to a single directory for at least one month! (this is not a joke)
You must ask the right question during the recruitment process and be prepared that they'll promise you the world, but be prepared - most of this would not be the reality.
The only reason you would accept is the salary.

    Advice to Management

You have to act as managers and not as some kind of royals whose only purpose is representative.
You should serve as lobbies for the office and try to gain as many privileges on the projects as you can acquire.
You should arrange some training for the employees and try to grant them all the tools they need to accomplish their work.

I worked at Logica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Free Tea and Coffee.
Paid the Mortgage for 3 years.

    Cons

Left the company 6 months ago.

Left due to the way Logica treats its staff.

    No pay rises. Period.

Agree with other people on here about the crap review process, but a large part of the review process is to make sure you don't get a high grade, as that would involve a pay rise. So - tiny mistakes get amplified , goalposts get moved, etc. What's the point in working hard when a high grade is impossible to get? The review process encourages slacking, buck passing and office politics.

No training. If you get put on to a project that has Java, and you know nothing of Java , well - thats your problem.

No promotion prospects. Same job title and pay grade for 3 years. Just got moved around projects.

Changes in terms. I.E Used to have flexitime but had it cancelled as “the project requires it”. Company moved office from cardiff to brigend. Told to like it or leave. P.S the new bridgend office has no parking spaces. Only join if you like a 30 minute walk from the car park to the office every day.

Managers would not let people take holidays they wanted most of the time: “to maintain minimum staffing level at all times” – I.E sitting in the office on facebook on xmas eve.

    Never ending redundancies.

Logica is a company that has utter contempt for its staff.

    Avoid.

    Advice to Management

    Resign!
