    Pros

Fortune 100 clients, interesting and thoughtful coworkers

    Cons

Executive leadership unable to operationalize on CEO's vision which often results in company wide scolding. Very little room for missteps given the company size and its big name clients.

    Advice to Management

    Sell smaller, more palatable engagements.

    Pros

You get what you put in. If you have an optimistic view of what a consultant can do to shape the future of work, LDS is for you.

Leadership has an open door policy and encourages an entrepreneurial spirit. If you take advantage of direct access to the CEO, your ideas and innovation serving business around the world can make an impact. You have to be prepared to be treated as a peer and have your ideas challenged. For some this is a humbling experience, but for others this inspires growth professionally.

    Cons

If you're looking for an easy paycheck and a stroke of your ego, this place is not for you. You will be involved in challenging conversations everyday. Some people don't have what it takes to last in an environment like this.

    Advice to Management

Your vision of adding business value to the employee experience have fueled this company for over 25 years. Maintaining your ability to stay ahead of industry trends with quality staff and forward thinking leadership will continue to serve you and your clients well.

    Pros

Wine parties at least once a month. Nice coworkers.

    Cons

Are you looking for a job that will crush your spirit and make you question your worth? This is the place for you! Before you join, you'll be led to believe that you're going to be contributing to The Next Big Thing. Not long after you start, you realize you really are just doing intranets -- those vast wastelands of corporate America that employees might look at once a year when they need to understand the vacation policy. The CEO will choose her small inner-circle of people who are "thought leaders" (yes, about intranets) and the rest of the employees get the work done.

    Advice to Management

Let it go. Get over yourselves. It's intranets.

    Pros

Past clients were of top caliber but many are reconsidering the value of an HR portal

    Cons

The success of a company is predicated on leveraging 100% of the talent of their employees; there is poor utilization of the talent of the individuals employed at LDS (including leadership)

    Advice to Management

Get new leadership talent in to change the culture

I worked at Logical Design Solutions full-time

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, normal working hours and business casual environment make this an easy place to work.

    Cons

The company is solely focused on the design of internal Intranets with some nice Visual Design on-top, under the guide of a "Management Consulting firm". Behind all the fancy consultant-talk, this is nothing more than an intranet design company. Projects that could and should be done in a few weeks, take months because everything is over-complicated by Mimi and her small band of lemmings who mimic her every word. There are a handful of Mimi disciples that have been with the company for 10 years or more, so there is no opportunity for anyone else to enter the "inner circle". Once Mimi retires in the next few years, the company will simply end.

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to your people - not just the 5 people in the "inner circle" and do not micromanage so much

    Pros

This is a company that prides itself on doing great work and strives relentlessly to be the best in the industry. And the people here exude passion and perfectionism in their work, from the executives down. This could be overwhelming, but it's made manageable by the fact that this is a close-knit organization with a strong interpersonal network and, in most cases, a sterling sense of humor. And the leaders always lead by example.

The fact that this is a consulting firm means that from day to day, you can work on projects that diverge widely in the type of client and the type of work. The work never gets boring and there are always opportunities to do something new. And small teams means that individual contributions get noticed and recognized.

    Cons

The culture of learning here can be exhausting -- there is a strong focus on refining our methodology and making sure everyone is in alignment in how we work and speak, all the time. This has its advantages, but the challenge is reconciling the formality of our strategic approach with the real, urgent, and unique demands of project work. This is something you learn to balance, but after a substantial tenure here I still find it difficult at times.

On a more quotidian level, the collaborative nature of the teams means working from home is not encouraged -- a challenge for everyone, but especially those of us with young children. Management has announced that new policies promoting better time management and work-life balance are in the works, however -- a very positive sign that employee input is taken seriously and the organization is open to change.

    Advice to Management

The care and commitment you give the company, its culture, and the work we do never goes unnoticed, and I think it's why people stay so long. They stay energized and engaged and they don't get complacent. That said, flexibility and openness are valued too, especially when they work in service of making employees feel trusted, accountable for themselves, and inspired to lend their individual voices to the conversation. The more these two positions fall into balance, the better the work environment -- and the work.

    Pros

Great co-workers. Interesting work with very diverse clients. One of few companies focused in this areas. Need to manage as a professional company rather than CEO's kingdom

    Cons

Not expected/accepted to question the CEO/Owner. If you are ok blindly following Mimi, great. If not, beware. Best thinkers leave company for this reason

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as the professionals they are

I have been working at Logical Design Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The commitment to elegant solutions, analytical and intellectual rigor, and thoughtful decision making is pervasive at LDS (and it's fundamental to who LDS is). This is an organization brimming with talented, devoted, creative individuals who come to work every day, unafraid to think hard about multidimensional problems and find a way to craft and deliver innovative solutions. You just don't often find this many motivated, competent experts who know how to really collaborate to make extreme progress together. If you've ever done large-scale problem solving across disciplines and domains (especially in big global organizations), then you know what "churn" can do to derail progress. By contrast, teams in their "groove" at LDS are just something beautiful to observe -- They're people who really know how to work together to think, to communicate, to create, and to get their clients to good and productive outcomes! I have to say -- It's very rewarding, both personally and professionally, to be able to create and to problem solve with such talented individuals and teams! These are smart people. Really smart. And they're all sincerely fortunate to come to work at a firm where, for over 20 years, leaders (with nothing less than extreme integrity) are transparent, intellectually honest, and committed to good outcomes for the business, for their people and for their families. Anyone who claims otherwise is just confused and is missing what's really going on here.

    Cons

You really have to be interested in thinking hard (every day) -- It's a firm that services the largest and most complex businesses in the world! Is that supposed to be easy, somehow? People who thrive here and stay with long tenures are tenacious problem solvers; they sincerely enjoy challenging work, they want to learn new things, they strive to create, they problem solve as a matter of course. That's what the work *is* at LDS. And it can be demanding, and it can be very satisfying. And that kind of working hard and thinking hard and flexing, and figuring it out, across domains and circumstances and clients and situations just isn't for everybody...

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

    Pros

Good benefits, usually good salary. Work with Fortune 100 companies and smart people.

    Cons

Where to start...someone else wrote if you are not part of the "A" team you don't really do well. This is true. For such a small place, it is very cliquish, and the managers not only do not know how to manage, but they are not supportive. It is very clear who is the "A" team and who is not. Project managers will not understand how things are done here because you have no accountability; that is taken by the exec who oversees. There are also a lot of "titled" people for the number of employees. They are very quick to throw you under the bus, even when they cause you the problem.

    Advice to Management

    You would not listen anyway.

    Pros

This is a place to work with some of the smartest people around. The projects are complex (perhaps more complex each year) and you get to work with some of the largest Fortune 50 companies. Even though it's a consulting firm, long tendered employees will tell you about the "family feel" at the firm.

    Cons

It's a mangement consulting firm at it's heart, and while client location travel is not always required, good consulting skills are a requirement for success.

    Advice to Management

Continue to look for ways to grow the "trusted base" allowing the firm to scale it's teams more successfully.
