Poor paying, poor management, directionless company

      Pros

Fairly decent discount. 20% off regular priced and clearance items.

      Cons

There are numerous sales/return policies in place, but there is ZERO backup from management when you try and enforce those rules. Customer brings an item to return that is not returnable? Management will make you return it, causing massive losses to stores bottom line. Shift selection is bad, you don't really get to pick, they just give you what they want. They will ask for more availability than you are able to give. Pay is very low, considering the new minimum wage. Wage scale hardly keeps up with inflation. Been with the company nearly 5 years now and only make 61 cents over the starting wage. Head office is very disconnected with store level issues, ask us to exceed goals that are simply impossible in certain locations. Marketing is terrible, basically non-existent for the RTG/TECH departments.

      You will get hurt

      Pros

Always a location close to apply at. Plenty of hours.

      Cons

      1. "Bro" based corporate culture with a knack for suppressing and harassing employees by both mentally and physically intimidating employees. 2. Hours can and will change on a moments notice. Up to and including while you are asleep, away on vacation or otherwise. I would close, get home at 3am and have to open the next day numerous times a week, without notice. Disciplinary action is common if you refuse an unscheduled shift regardless of employment status. 3. Forced software (Citrix VPN ) on your personal devices to check basic information like pay stubs and schedule. This is a serious privacy concern. 4. Mandatory corporate email that is rarely used in an appropriate manner. 5. "London Drugs does not facilitate transfers" - HR ; even in the event of physical and mental abuse. 6. Employee benefits went from "cost+" to a "percentage off". Causing serious financial hardship to families as they omit baby formula, diapers and dairy. 7. Head office is very inaccessible to disabled persons. 8. Discrimination and abuse towards persons with disabilities is rampant within the ranks of this company. 9. Abuse investigations take no more that 3 days and you are not allowed to hear the findings. 10. Human Resources Dept is designed to make it difficult to report employee abuse anonymously. 11. Upper management appear to have limited interest in employee morale and are interested in creating internal "competitions" which has created a paramount of hostility between sales. 12. CCTV footage gets deleted even if it's requested. 13. They have a vested interest in following you post employment. 14. plastic Ladders/stools and other equipment is very flimsy and poses a serious hazard to many employees.

      Horrible company

      Pros

Air conditioned in Summer....? Seriously, that's all I have.

      Cons

Non-existent wage increases based on number of hours worked, not how good an employee you are. Non-existent commission. Benefits only after 1 year. If you work your way up the pay scale they suddenly have no hours for you. Do you have an idea or suggestion? No one wants to hear it. Never speak up; no one will take it seriously. Toxic Head Office environment. Pointless red tape and procedure everywhere. A "promotion" to LD is moving you to a busier store where you do more work for the exact same meager wage.

London Drugs is going downhill - Employees are leaving like crazy

      Pros

Nothing. This company USED to be good when Wynne Powell was at the helm. This company is a sinking ship now that he's no longer there.

      Cons

      - Not enough staff who want to stay - Benefits are crap for if you're part time only - Management allows too much returns even though past return date - Allowed a return for a product that was bought more than 2 years ago! Makes the company look like a joke - Head Office and CEO is out of touch with employees at the store level! - Company is more concerned with their sales than the SAFETY of their own staff!

      Head Office shows major disconnect

      Pros

Our store manager was fantastic, truly one of the best I've had. Discount is okay, 20%.

      Cons

Head office is seriously disconnected from the stores. Managements hands are tied because they aren't allowed to ever fire anyone.

Photo/Electronics : Flexible hours, Good Wage scale

Apr 18, 2017 - Photo Electronics Specialist in Surrey, BC
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible hours You get a raise when you hit so many hours worked, first raise is at 680 I believe and that bumps you to 11.32/hr and it keeps going from there but caps out at 17/hr maybe 20/hr if your lucky. Lots of opportunity to move up the ladder, once you are promoted then you are on salary. Open door policy, you can speak to any manager in the store if you don't feel comfortable with your own manager. For example if your in P/E you can speak to the DM or store manager and/or assistant store manager. Benefits are really good. The package is through Dejardins (used to be great west).

      Cons

Management needs to listen to there staff and not think they know EVERYTHING. Head office also needs to listen to the staff, if something is not working its the sales associates that are going to know, take what they say into consideration. Plus some staff members have great ideas on how to improve. Your Employee Discount is only 20% off on regular priced items, you get nothing off on sale items unless they are on BIN.

      Terrible place for Pharmacists

      Pros

S-pro is what they like to tell you. That's about it.

      Cons

No advancement, fear mongering, lowest wages in industry, paid for UBC pharmacy buidling in return to double pharmacy student seating so they can flood the market with pharmacists and thereby lower wages further (high supply low demand), childish head office, sell you the world and give you nothing.

      Good for students...

      Mar 24, 2017 - Computer Specialist
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Great employee benefits (discounts, EPPs, etc.). - Mostly flexible hours. - Great for students. - Other staff are nice and fun getting around with. - Always putting customers first. - Management is pretty approachable.

      Cons

      - Head office constantly makes new planograms that don't make sense, in the hopes of boosting sales. - The marketing team (or lack of) uses strategies that are way too dated and don't work for the modern day, they're downright cringeworthy ads. Mainly marketing towards babyboomers, Gen-X, or Silent Gen. Can't market to millennials. - Often brings in low quality product that not even staff would buy, or similar product you can buy elsewhere for way cheaper. - Acts like their house brands are the best product in the world (Certified Data, TreeFrog, etc.). - Managers can be hit or miss. - Pretty late on the whole "rewards program" thing.
