I worked at London Health Sciences Centre full-time

    Pros

There's meaningful work being done in the cancer labs. All the pros and cons that come with being research scientist.

    Cons

I've never had to directly deal with management or any of the politics so there's not much to say about that.

    Advice to Management

Again, not much to say about management as I've never directly had to deal with them. Heard good and bad things.

I worked at London Health Sciences Centre full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and good benefits, especially the pension. Lots of departments to move in between if you want a change after a few years.

    Cons

Most of the leaders have very poor business skills so good decisions are not always made. In addition, generally, speaking up is not safe.

    Advice to Management

More coordinators are needed - many unit coordinators have more than 100 direct reports.

I have been working at London Health Sciences Centre full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    I have some amazing coworkers.

    Cons

bad treatment of nursing staff. turning nurses against each other so they can achieve their goal and have someone to blame. You can't trust management. You may get fired or eaten (if you know what I mean) when you express an honest review for change. Management / coordinators can throw you under the bus to get to the top.

    Advice to Management

CLEAN UP IS NEEDED SO BAD! YOU ARE DESTROYING THE HOSPITAL WITH YOUR CEO WHO FIRES ANYONE WHO STANDS UP FOR NURSES!

    Pros

Some of them try to make it better place.
Not bad compensation if you are considering the location 'London'.
A few nice coworkers it you are lucky enough.

    Cons

Very toxic and negative environment if you are not WASP.
Impotent mid level managers just have long working years. I don't know how they are survived.

    Advice to Management

Just do some housekeeping works on your incapable managers who make it worse. They are proudly said I don't know about technology, processes, current trends and you must serve as I am thinking but never share their thoughts. If something goes wrong it will be all your fault.

I worked at London Health Sciences Centre full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to influence health care, specifically this is a position that has the ability to improve health services available to our community.

    Cons

Health care is highly political, it can be very challenging to implement change. If you are considering working at LHSC, be prepared for tight budgets, limited resources and conflicting organizational priorities.

    Advice to Management

Think long term. Frequently changing priorities creates a challenging environment for staff and makes achieving strategic goals nearly impossible.

Lots of opportunity, access to leading edge practice and truly caring individuals. Can make a career here. Excellent pay and benefits.

    Cons

Political influences externally and internally that negtively impact culture. Happiness scale varies depending on hours of work, recognition and work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Stay real and listen to and talk with staff; don't just listen to those who are paid to talk to you. Seek more than one opinion.
